More Than Conquerors (Part 2) Romans 8:36-37 (Part 8 of God for Us series)
Since God for us
• No enemies—v. 31b
• No lack—v. 32
• No guilt—v. 33 (no one can file a charge)
• No judge—v. 34
• No catastrophe—vv. 35-36 (he lists several possibilities)
• No separation—vv. 37-39
The cause of suffering—v. 36—“for thy sake”
• This is our expectation—“just as it is written”
• This is God’s will
The conquest of suffering—v. 37 “more than”
• The quality of victory
o “We are more than conquerors”
• The completeness of victory
o “In all these things”
• The miracle of victory
o “Through him that loved us”
Observations
• In Romans 8:34, we have 3 aspects of Christ’s death (what He has done “for/on behalf” of us)
o His death—this removes condemnation
o His resurrection—this imparts life
o His intercession—this pledges security
• In Romans 8:24, “in hope we have been saved—why “hope”? (why not “faith”?)
o Hope is faith that is two things . . .
1) Instructed—faith that is taught is then . . .
2) Advanced
• In Romans 8:35, 38-39 tells us that even the smallest and most insignificant believer in the world can defy the whole world
• In Romans 8:36, “for thy sake”
o To suffer and even die for Christ was regarded as the highest privilege
o It was also counted as the greatest fellowship
Romans 8:38-39
• Settled conviction—for I am persuaded
• Universal search—then he will take a run through the universe to see if there is anything that can separate from the love of God in Christ
• “I am persuaded”
• Perfect tense
• Passive voice
Three elements necessary to grow
• Existence of truth
• Teaching of truth
• Believing of truth
