Jehovah is the Lord # 2
Today we’re going to continue on the series called Jehovah is the Lord. 2 weeks ago we looked at many Vs in the Word of God that had to do with JEHOVAH. Before we go on any further in this subject I just want to go back to a few of the Vs we covered last time, so that we’re all caught up to the same place.
I. In (EXO 3) Moses 1st saw the very presence of God in the Burning Bush.
A. Turn with me to Exodus 3:4-5, 7
1. The word “Lord” (in V 4 and in V 7) is the Hebrew word “Jehovah.”
a. It was the Lord that said, Moses, Moses.
i. Just from this V we can see that it is Jehovah that is the 1 talking from the burning bush.
b. Go down to V 7a (“And the LORD said.”)
i. Again the word “LORD is the Hebrew word “Jehovah.”
ii. We can clearly see that Jehovah is the 1 doing the talking.
c. Go down to EXO 3:13-14
i. Jehovah is the Great “I AM.”
2. Turn to John 8:21-24; 28; 58-59
a. The Jews knew exactly what Jesus was saying. Jesus was saying that he was the Great I AM.
b. He was saying that He was Jehovah.
B. Turn to ZECH 12:1a
1. The word “LORD” again is the word “Jehovah.”
a. Go down to V 4a.
i. Again, the word “Lord” is the word “Jehovah.”
2. We know who is talking here, it is Jehovah.
a. Go down to ZECH 12:10
b. Who was it that they pierced, the Lord Jesus Christ.
C. (Isaiah 44:6) Says, “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” KJV
1. Well, again the word “Lord” is the word “Jehovah.”
a. Jehovah says that He is the 1st and the last.
b. In (Revelation 22:13) Jesus says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” KJV
i. So again Jesus is calling himself Jehovah.
2. In the Book of PSA it says, “that Jehovah is the King of Glory”
a. The NT says that Jesus is the Lord of Glory.
3. In the OT from (JER 23:6) it says that Jehovah is our righteousness.
a. (1COR 1:30) tells us that Jesus is our righteousness.
4. The OT says that Jehovah created all things. (PRO 16:4)
a. (COL 1:16) Says, that Jesus created all things.
5. (Joel 2:32) says, “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD (Jehovah) shall be delivered and saved.” KJV
a. In the NT is says in (Romans 10:13) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” KJV
D. ISA 49:26
1. Again the word “Lord” is the word “Jehovah.”
a. And Jehovah says that He is “The Saviour and the Redeemer.”
2. Turn to Titus 2:13-14
a. Jesus is the “Saviour and Redeemer” of His people.
II. JOSHUA 5:13-15 (The word “LORD” is the word “Jehovah.”)
A. Some have said that this must have been an angel, but if you read this a little more carefully, you’ll see that Joshua worshipped Him. (V 14)
1. God’s Angels do not receive worship, but Jesus does.
a. In the Book of MATT on the day which we call Palm Sunday the people put palm leaves in the street before Jesus and cried “Hosanna to the Son of David.” (Matt 21:9)
i. In (MATT 21:15-16) The chief priests and scribes were upset that the people were saying Hosanna to Jesus, they said to Him “Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?”
ii. Jesus accepted worship, but in (MATT 4:9-10) when Satan came to Jesus when He was being tempted of the Devil.
iii. Satan said, “Fall down and worship me.” But Jesus said, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
iv. In (REV 19:10) John tried to worship the angel, but the angel said, “See thou do it not, worship God.”
b. Turn back to Joshua 5
i. This could not be an angel, but it must have been The Lord Jesus Christ, Jehovah Elohim.
ii. Even in (V 15) It says….
iii. The same thing that Jehovah Elohim said from the Burning Bush.
B. Back in (V 14) this magnificent being said to Joshua that He was the “CAPTAIN” of the host of the LORD.
1. The word “Captain” here has a greater meaning in the Hebrew than it does in the English.
a. In the Hebrew it can mean “Captain, prince, head, leader, it can also mean Ruler of rulers.”
b. Who is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, and even the Ruler of rulers.
i. Jesus is above all. He is the Ruler of Rulers.
ii. In (JOHN 3:31) John the Baptist spoke of Jesus when he said, “He that cometh from above is above all.”
iii. That would include Ruler over all rulers.
2. If you’re still there in (JOSH 5:14) you see that the Lord refers to Himself as the “Captain of the Host of the Lord.”
a. There are over 240 times that Jehovah or Jesus is referred to as the Lord of Host. (Jehovah Tsaba)
C. Let’s just look at 1 of them MAL 3:10
1. The word “HOST” has a number of meanings. It can mean “Host, war, army, and battle.”
a. This is telling us that Jesus is the Lord over the Host of Angels, HE’S also the Lord of war, HE’S the Lord over the heavenly armies, HE’S even the Lord in BATTLE.
2. In (MAL 3:10) here that we just read, The Lord is saying that if we give to Him, He will prosper us even if He has to go to Battle for us.
a. Even if He has to go to war for us, He will prosper us if we do what He says.
i. Look what He says in MAL 3:11
ii. He will do battle against the enemy in our behalf.
b. Turn to PSA 118:6-7
c. How can you know that the Lord is on your side and that He will do battle in your behalf?
i. Psa 118:1 This is a picture of a person that is serving the Lord. It’s a person that is praising and worshipping the Lord.
ii. Psa 118:5a This is a person that is seeking the Lord.
iii. PSA 118:8-9
iv. If you’re putting your trust and confidence in the Lord, Seeking Him and Serving Him, The Lord will hook up with you and do battle in your behalf.
3. We’ll end with this last V ROM 8:31
a. We have the very Lord of Battle fighting for us.
i. How can we walk in fear If we know that God is on our side?
ii. If you want the Lord of Battle fighting for you, serve Him, trust Him, and keep His Word.
b. He will always cause you to triumph because He is in the battle with you.
