The New Man

Jesus cured the man’s blindness
John 9:1–9 AV
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
And we see later on...
John 9:38 AV
And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
Jesus Made him a new creation
2 Corinthians 5:17 AV
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
When we are saved, put our faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross,
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 AV
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Then we become a new person
born again from above
John 1:12–13 AV
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Salvation is not a decision to change a lifestyle, and start going to church
Salvation is God changing you making you a Child of His
So this man, a new changed life is talking to his friends

Telling His Friends

after he washed and was able to see he went home
John 9:8–9 AV
The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
I am he. I am the one who used to be blind
used to beg
I’m a new man, life is totally different now
BUT HOW?
John 9:10 AV
Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
How did this impossible thing happen?
John 9:11 AV
He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
A man called Jesus (there a lot of men named Jesus)
made mud and put on my eyes
told me to go wash in the pool of siloam
sounded crazy but i did it and now I see
John 9:12 AV
Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
I don’t know I just came from the pool
The neighbors thinking; there must be an spiritual explanation..
John 9:13–14 AV
They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

Telling The Pharisees

the religious men
experts in the Bible
but very ungodly
John 9:15 AV
Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
Refining his witness statement
Pharisees in v 16
John 9:16 AV
Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
John 9:17 AV
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
Gone from a man named Jesus to He is a Prophet
time to think about what he knows
The pharisees dont want to believe that Jesus healed this man
V 18-23 the parents are called in to testify about the blindness of this man
Turning back to the New Man saying..
John 9:24 AV
Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
Because he healed on the Sabbath
John 9:25 AV
He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
He does not know much about Jesus, theology, the Bible. but what he does know the impossible has happened in his life, and he’s not keeping it a secret
John 9:26 AV
Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
trying to trip him up change his story
The pharisees don’t want to give Jesus the glory
don’t want to admit that Jesus is God
In fact they are blinded to Jesus as God
2 Corinthians 4:4 AV
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
They are religious leaders who are blinded by satan
who Jesus called sons of the Devil
religious leaders doing exactly what Satan wants
John 9:27 AV
He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
they are again attacking Jesus
John 9:28–29 AV
Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
Imagine wanting to be Moses disciple instead of Jesus
And hating Jesus so much that they wanted to kill him
the experts get a sermon
John 9:30–33 NKJV
The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”
Conclusion
here we have this man newly transformed, being bold in his witness of Jesus
Preaching what he knows, not waiting until he knows everything
knowing that being bold gets him thrown out, and hated.
Remember the neighbors are watching this whole drama being played out
what do they believe?
seeds are being planted
in about 6 months they are going to see Jesus crucified
2 months after that, Pentecost sermon by Peter 3000 saved
Maybe some seeds were planted in the hearts of the Pharisees
Are we today planting seeds?
