gmyyu       We’re continuing on the subject of Praise. The Bible teaches us that we are to pray. Prayer is communication with God. Praise is the highest form of prayer.

     I. Jesus said in (MATT 26:41) “Could you not watch and pray with me 1 hour. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is week.”

              A. I thing this is a key for us. The Lord is saying, “The minimum time that you should be praying is 1 hour.”

                        1. Praise is a very important part of prayer.

                                  a. There are many references to God beginning to move in a situation when God’s people began to praise Him.

                                           i. Anywhere from God destroying Israel’s enemy, to demons fleeing, to God’s people being set free.

ii. We even see in the nation of Israel, when they were not serving God and worshipping Him, things were always bad, but when they would turn around and begin to serve Him and worship Him, things would change.

                                          b. 2CHRON 7:14

                                                      i. Notice He says “pray and seek my face,” then the land would be healed.

ii. Praise and worship are a big part ofPrayer and seeking God face.”

II. In the last few weeks we took up 6 of the 7 types of Praise and worship in the Word of God.

                  A. They were, 1st of all “YADAH” which is an act of praise and worship with extended hand.

                              1. Which is a sign of total surrender and submission to God. Totally trusting Him.

                                          a. YADAH” refers to speaking out our praises to God.

                  B. The 2nd Hebrew word that we found in the OT for praise is the word. “TOWDAH.”

                              1. TOWDAH has to do with offering up thanksgiving.

                                          a. It can be speaking out our thanksgiving, or it can be singing our thanks.

                                          b. It can also be thanking Him for things in the past, things present, or thanking Him for things that His Word says are yours.

                  C. The 3rd Hebrew word for praise is “HALAL.”

                              1. HALALrefers to speaking our praises with volume and action, until noisily foolish, or clamorourly foolish.

                                          a. Each of the types of praise that were talking about, causes you to move from the natural to the supernatural.

                                          b. When you truly beginning to praise and worship God thing will begin to happen.

                                                      i. They will begin to happen immediately in the spirit.

ii. How long for them to come to pass in the natural always varies.

iii. But if all you do is spend 2 minutes in praise and worship, you probably won’t see any change.

                  D. The 4th  word that we have for praise is the Hebrew wordSHABACH.”

                              1. SHABACHmeansto laud, applaud, praise, commend, glory, and triumph.”

                                          a. It also implies in a loud tone.

                              2. SHABACH has to do with MAGNIFYING God.

                                          a. This word differs from TOWDAH which is offering up thanksgiving.

                              3. SHABACH is more of Magnifying God. Praising Him for His greatness, His magnificence, His power or His glory.

                                  a. It usually has to do with joy and rejoicing for victory.

                                                      i. Again it could be for victory not even seen yet.

ii. (2 Corinthians 2:14) Says, “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ.”

                                          b. SHABACH has to do with MAGNIFYING God.

                  E. The 5th  word that we have for praise is the wordBARAK.”

                              1. BARAK” is more conservative then the others.

                                          a. It meansTo kneel, to bless God as an act of adoration.”

                                          b. It’s also translated as “Bless, or bow down in worshipful attitude.”

                              2. David talked about “Blessing God.” Which means. “To bow down and worship God.”

                  F. The 6th type of Praise is the Hebrew wordZAMAR.”

                              1. ZAMARmeansto touch the strings or to play musical instruments.”

                                          a. This type of praise has such an anointing upon it that the evil spirits can not take it and have to flee.

III. That brings us to the 7th Hebrew word. “TEHILLAH.”

                  A. TEHILLAH” means to sing our praises to God, but it means more than that, it means to sing ourHALAH” to God.

                              1. Turn with me to PSA 22:3.

                                          a. God inhabits or dwells in our “TEHILLAH” praises.

                  B. There is more toTEHILLAHthan just singing praises to God.

                              1. You’ve heard people sing unto God where the presence of God is nowhere around.

                                          a. I can show you that from the Word.

                                          b. You remember the story when Israel was about to be attacked and they were far out numbered. In (2CHORN 20:22)

                                                      i. As they put out praisers in front of their army, God set ambushments against the enemy.

                              2. Let’s just look at it for a minute. 2CHROM 20:22

                                          a. It says, “And when they began to sing and to praise (TEHILLAH)”

                                                      i. In other words they said, “When they began to sing and Sing TEHILLAH.”

ii. 2 different kinds of singing here.

                                          b. 1 means to sing in praise, the other means to singTEHILLAH.”

                                                      i. Some have called this “High Praises.”

                              3. We know from the Word of God that there is a difference, but what is it?

                                          a. Turn with me to EPH 5:18-19

                                          b. What are “Spiritual Songs?”

                                                      i. People say that it’s singing in the Spirit.

ii. But it’s more than that.

                              4. The word “Spiritual” in this V means, “Belonging to a spirit, belonging to the Divine Spirit, of God the Holy Spirit, governed by the Spirit of God, and filled with the Spirit.”

                                          a. There are songs and there are songs filled with the Spirit.

                                          b. The Spirit of God is manifesting Himself through those songs of praise.

                                                      i. There are the times that the HS will hook up with our praise and there is such an anointing upon it that God will dwell in the mists of our praises.

                  C. It was this type of praise that causes the enemies to turn on themselves when it says that the Lord set ambushments. (2CHRON 20:22)

                              1. This is the type of praise that will usher us into the presence of God.

                                          a. PSA 100:4

                                          b. We come into the very presence of God with our TEHILLAH.

                              2. How do we worship God in the TEHILAH type of praise?

                                          a. JOHN 4:23-24

                                                      i. When we are singing out our praises to God from our hearts (our spirits, that where the HS dwells) we’ve entered into TEHILLAH, the high praises.

                                          b. Look at 1COR 14:15

                                                      i. Notice he says, “Sing WITH the spirit.”

ii. Turn to PSA 34:1 (Praise is Tehillah)

iii. To sing with the spirit does not have to be in tongues only. You can sing with the spirit in English.

                                          c. When you’re singing from your heart, not with your head, you’re singing TEHILLAH praises to God.

                  D. Look at PSA 40:3

                              1. A “NEW” song does not mean that you have to sing a new song every time in order to enter into the TEHILLAH praise.

                                          a. The word “NEW” can meanNEW or equally, it can meanFRESH.”

                                                      i. Every time that you’re singing from your spirit it is a fresh song.

                              2. In (Isaiah 61:3) it says, “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”

                              3. David said in (Psalm 34:1), “I will bless (Barak bow down) the LORD at all times: his praise (Tehillah) shall continually be in my mouth.”

                  E. In (2 CHRON 5:14) the priest could not stand to minister because of the “TEHILLAH” praises.

                              1. It caused the glory cloud of the Lord to fill the temple.

                                          a. It’s the TEHILAH praises that usher in the presence and glory of God.
