introduction
resurrection sunday!! this is it, this is the day we remember because it solidifies our faith.
its a day we should always have on our minds, but especially we pause to recognize the Finished work of Christ and the Reality of the Resurrection.
Just last Sunday, we celebrated one of the ordinances of the Church, Communion. . the reminder of His death for The Sins of the World.
Today we celebrate the empty tomb.
The empty tomb is so important for us because it affirms God’s word through the Prophet Hosea in Chapter 6 verse two
“Come, let us return to the Lord;
for he has torn us, that he may heal us;
he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.
After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will raise us up,
that we may live before him.
This proves again the faithfulness of God and the fact that His Word is Trustworthy for us.
Resurrection Sunday separates us from other faiths. . their leaders died and at their death. . their story ends.
Christ being raised gives us hope of new life, in this new Christ is seated at the Right Hand of God. Or as Stephen said standing at the right hand of God the Father
But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
This is great news. . Christ being raised to new life is able to intercede on our behalf.
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
The resurrection of Jesus give us hope in the power of God.. . the same power that Raised Jesus from the Dead is the same that can resurrect your situation, your circumstances, and ever the Pandemic we our facing with the COVID-19. . God has the Power and we must have Faith and Believe in Him
Notes for 1 cor 15
Verse 1
Remember the gospel
Verse 2
Hold fast to the gospel
Verse 3
Gospel presentation
Verse 4
The verb egēgertai does not denote merely resuscitation (as in the case of Lazarus, who was restored to physical life on earth in John 12:1), but rather implies exaltation.
Christ resurrection speaks to Exaltation and not just resurrection power. He was raised with power fulfilling Hosea 2
Christ raised on the 3rd day. . . there are issues
Just when the “resurrection” of Jesus took place is problematic. The resurrection narratives in all four Gospels tell only of the discovery of the empty tomb on what would be “the third day,” whereas in the Lucan Gospel the already crucified Jesus on the day before the Sabbath promises the penitent thief, “Today (sēmeron) you will be with me in Paradise” (23:43), i.e., in the glorious presence of God, his Father (23:46). That too explains why the risen Christ asks the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, “Was it not necessary (past tense, imperf. edei) for the Messiah to suffer these things and so enter into his glory?”
Hosea 6:2 gives us the prophecy of the bodily resurrection form the dead on the third day: 2 days revive us. . third day raise us up. “according to the scriptures.
Verse 5-10
And he appeared : witnesses to the Resurrected Jesus
The type of people Jesus showed up to
Anticipating, anxious, appointed, against
Anticipating
Peter is mentioned first because of his prominence: see john 21:15-18.
Peter And the 12
anxious
500 brothers
appointed
James and the other apostles
against
Lastly Paul, Paul represents people who are looking for God, they are on a different path. . heading a the wrong direction. . but God even shows up for them.
This shows us the Love Christ has for all. . He is willing to provide salvation to those who don’t want it.
I believe this is a great apologetic for the Truthfulness of the Resurrection because Jesus did not just show up for the people expecting Him he shows up even to people rejecting Him
Verses 12-19
Christ resurrection
Pauls gives us a powerful guarantee
Verse 12
The main reason this chapter was written: it was a response to people saying there was no resurrection verse 12
His dissertation makes four conclusions. If the detractors are right: 1.Christ has not been raised from the dead, 2. Paul’s preaching is useless, 3.Corinthian Christians faith is useless and still in sin, 4. Christians who have died are lost
Paul uses aristotelian syllogism or stoic Megarian Logic
To this point cultural norms made people deny:
1. Post Mortem existence- death is the end of all
2. Bodily Nature of the Resurrection-
3. Futurity of the Resurrection- they thought the resurrection had already taken place in some sense
