From Faith to Fear to Faith
From Faith to Fear to Faith
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
Imagine with me if you would - the disciples have followed the Lord - the 12 have been with him for these 3 years - others have followed faithfully -
Peter and Andrew
James and John
Matthew
and others - left all and followed him...
They watched the miracles...
They heard the teachings...
They observed the temperament, attitude of the Savior
These are they who watched as other attacked him...
I am sure that though at times they found themselves a little admired because they were on the inside… they were close to Jesus...
Other times they, along with Jesus were ridiculed and rejected...
Jesus had called them… and they followed...
I would say that these were men of faith… - not perfect, not without fault - but they had exhibited faith in their lives as they followed the Savior...
We are going to take a little journey along with the disciples - and see the pattern of their faith and what impacted it...

King James Version Chapter 4
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. 21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
FAITH....
Faith is where it all starts:
You meet Jesus
You follow Jesus
You obey Jesus
You learn to Trust Jesus
You get to KNOW Jesus...

Following in Salvation
Following in Baptism
Following in faithful attendance to church
Following in service / discipleship
Following in the continual process (it’s still going on) Sanctification...
IT ALL STARTS WITH FAITH

a. Fear is an emotion that is God given...
we act as though fear is bad...
it is an emotion that God created us with...
isn’t it amazing that the older you get - the less invincible you are...
b. Fear is an emotion that is God given, but an emotion that should be controlled.
anger… God given emotion...
be ye angry and sin not… - control
proper place
proper process
The doors were shut...
The doors right now - all around the world are shut...
Our church doors are not shut because of fear...
we are not in hiding...
but fear has gripped many
Some are dealing with fear and that’s ok, but we cannot stay couped up...
we cannot allow fear of COVID-19 to cause us to live in fear...
doors shut - families
doors shut - not going out
doors shut - not planing on going out - except for essentials...
becoming a hermit is not wise
it is not a healthy attitude
it is not a position to take for you and your family!
Fear - will paralyze you...
fear will render you ineffective for the mission of life… mission of the Lord

Peace - vs 19
Peace - vs .21
Holy Ghost - filling
commision -
fear should not be where we stay -
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
this is a process - all of us experience it...
Faith
Fear
Faith...
when we are acting in faith - we can have peace...
when we are acting in fear - we can’t see the Lord’s working and protection...
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
