Mighty Things Come From Difficult Times
Hello Section 9 Youth! It’s so good to be able to speak to you today.
I hope you are doing well and that you have not completely run out of groceries.
I’m having a little fun here, but I do want to speak something to you that I believe can be a help to you.
Let’s move to the very beginning of our Bible, where everything began.
It says:
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Now when it says “The earth was without form, and void...” those words express one singular concept: chaos.
And Jeremiah 4 tells us that this was the state that the earth had been reduced down to. Now there are different thoughts on what exactly happened there, but don’t want to focus on that.
Let’s focus on what is being described: “without form… void… darkness.”
All of these words are painting a picture of chaos, disaster, and devastation.
It’s really an odd moment at the beginning of our Bible.
And honestly, it’s an odd time we’re living in today. Aren’t we seeing a sort of chaos, disaster, and devastating going on? We’re sort of in the same moment.
But here is what is interesting...
After describing that chaos that appeared… the very next thing said in scripture: “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
In the midst of chaos, the Spirit was present and accounted for!
Even right now, with the chaos we are seeing, the Spirit of the Lord is hovering where we are! He is present!
And what did He do?
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
God didn’t even have to reach down into the chaos - He simply spoke: “Let there be light,” and there it was! And that light was GOOD.
And in that moment, a good thing came out of the midst of chaos.
Can I tell you that mighty things can come from some of the most difficult times!
God came into the dark and brought forth a light!
I think that it’s here in our time of chaos and worry throughout the world that God wants to bring forward something special out of YOU!
My question is, “Will you let Him? Will you be a part of it?”
It’s not the only time he did it. He did it all throughout scripture!
When Lot was going to be lost in a city of chaos, up comes his family, Abraham, to intercede in prayer.
When Egypt made life chaotic in holding God’s people, He brought up Moses to speak the word of the Lord.
When people needed a savior in the chaos of sin, God used Mary to birth Jesus - and it was because she was willing!
MIGHTY THINGS COME FROM DIFFICULT TIMES.
And here is what you need to decide… make this a firm decision today: “I am not going to wait around on something to happen and for this lockdown to let up - I’m going to use the time God has given me, and I’m not going to come out of this thing weaker, I’m coming out stronger in Jesus name!”
I’m going to nail down my prayer life in this extra time! I’m going to make my bible-reading a priority!
You absolutely can come out strong and mighty by God’s help, even in chaos.
I believe He wants to do a new thing in you, you just have to commit yourself, and let Him use you!
I believe in each one of you, and I know that this year is just going to get better for you, your youth, and your church!
