1. Enabled us to share us to share in His inheritance

Colossians 1:12 NASB95
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
who qualified.. the greek means, to make sufficient to empower to be enough.
That’s a reason to be thankful. we are sufficient not because our own works, but His.
qualified for what?
to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
what is the inheritance of the saints?
i believe that answer is summed up in two words, “Eternal Life”
1 Peter 1:4 NASB95
4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
Our inheritance are the benefits of the work of Christ.
That include, heaven, salvation, forgiveness, hope, and abundant life.

2. He recused us from Satan’s kingdom of darkness and made us children of light.

Colossians 1:13 NASB95
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
He rescued, also means delivered.
not in, but out of.
the domain, dominion, power, authority or kingdom of darkness.

3. He brought us into His eternal Kingdom.

and transferred.....
meaning to change, to remove and to cause to be different.
us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.

4. He purchased our freedom from sin and judgement with his own blood

Colossians 1:14 NASB95
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
redemption origin in the greek mean to ‘buying back’ a slave or captive, i.e. ‘making free’ by payment of a ransom

5. He forgave ALL of our sin.

the forgiveness of sins
Hebrews 9:12 NASB95
12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

II. He is Number 1

1. Firstborn of all creation

Colossians 1:15 NASB95
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
what Paul is doing here is coming against the dangerous teaching was threatening the church at Colossae, which lessened Christ’s role and undermined the new identity of believers “in Christ” .
Christ is the image of the invisible God, Christ is GOD!!!
He is above angels, which people where being taught to worship
Colossians 2:18 NASB95
18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
His relation to creation..
Colossians 1:16 NASB95
16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:17 NASB95
17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

2. First born from the dead.

His relation to the church
Colossians 1:18 NASB95
18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
Colossians 1:19 NASB95
19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,
3. Because he is first he is qualified to heaven and earth
Colossians 1:20 NASB95
20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
Reconciliation is essential to the gospel. Its the Good News that God has come to us to be near to us.
Webster defines reconciled as:
1. Restore friendly relations between
2. Cause to coexist in harmony; make or show to be compatible
The Greek word for reconciled here, “through Him to reconcile all things to Himself.” is apokatallassō meaning to reconcile fully.
made peach through His cross, something so violent produced such peace .
Colossians 1:21 NASB95
21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds,
our state before we were reconciled
Alienation is, the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which one should be involved.
Alienation speaks of distance.
Before we came to Christ we were alienated (estranged and away) from the Father. We were also hostile (enemies or foes, even hateful) in our minds towards God. We engaged in evil deeds and works.
Colossians 1:22 NASB95
22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—
in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—
3. Conclusion
Colossians 1:23 NASB95
23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.
If you continue…
Not turning again to the domain of darkness, but holding firmly and steadfast to the faith in the kingdom not moving away from this hope of the gospel.
He has transferred us to live in and dwell in a new kingdom, my Father’s Kingdom one filled with peace.
No longer alienated and hostile doing wicked works but reconciled to Him to be holy (Son) and spotless (Bribe) in His sight (Kingdom.)
