Understanding the Anointing pt 2
Last week we started on the subject of “The Anointing of God.” The title that I put on the message (series) is “Flowing in the Anointing.” Last week we took up the subject of “Qualifying for the Anointing.” Today I want to pick up where I left off last time.
I) 1st of all, to qualify for the anointing and to walk in the anointing of God it’s going to take GENUINE HUMILITY.
A) In life today we might see someone and think that they are a HUMBLE person or vise versa. Unfortunately what we see is the outward appearance. The way a person is, is not visible on the outside.
1) Turn with me to 1SAM 16:7 (This is the story of Samuel choosing the next king for Israel after Saul.)
(a) Pride or true humility is something that is in the heart.
(b) In the book of ACTS we have something similarly and that was with Ananias and Sapphira.
(i) What they did was to lie to the HS and Peter said in (ACTS 5:4) “Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart?”
(ii) In the outward appearance they did what seemed to be good.
(iii) That’s why God said, “Don’t look on the outward appearance.”
(iv) The real test is what’s on the inside, in the heart.
B) Turn with me to ISAIAH 14:12-15 (this is in reference to Satan.)
1) Notice in (V 12) he says, “How art thou fallen?”
(a) He begins to answer the question.
(b) 1st something took place in his heart. (V 13) says, “Thou hast said in thine heart.” NOT OUTWARD APPEARANCE, but INWARD, in the heart.
2) What did he say in his heart that was so wrong?
(a) Let’s read ISA 14:13-14 again.
(b) Now some will say that this is not pride, but rebellion.
(i) IT’S THE SAME THING.
3) In the Word of God the word “HUMBLE” means “SUBMISSION,” submission to God.
(a) The opposite of HUMBLE is PRIDE, and the opposite of SUBMISSION is REBELLION.
(i) Notice Satan’s 5 “I’s” that are found in these Vs. “I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
(ii) He was placing his own plans and his own ways of doing things above God’s ways.
(b) (1TIM 3:6 from the Barclay translation) is referring to placing leaders in the church, but listen to what it says, “He must not be a new convert, in case he should become inflated with a sense of his own importance (other translations say pride), and so incur the same judgement that was passed on the Devil for his pride.”
(c) (1TIM 6:3-4) says that those that refuse to submit to the words of the Lord Jesus Christ are in pride.
(i) What was Satan’s sin? PRIDE
(ii) And what is going to stop the anointing of God from flowing in your life? Pride.
4) Now you might be saying, “Where does it say that in the Word?”
(a) I’m glad you asked that question.
C) Turn with me to EZE 28:11-15
1) What was the “INIQUITY” that was found in him? PRIDE!
2) But wait a minute, (V 14) says that HE WAS ANOINTED (V 15) says UNTIL PRIDE.
D) What’s the difference between the act of being HUMBLE and PRIDE?
1) Pride says, “I will do this and I will do that.”
2) But true HUMILITY can be seen in Jesus life.
(a) Jesus said in (John 4:34) “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me.” KJV
(b) And in (John 5:30) Jesus said, “I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” KJV
(c) And again, before the soldiers took Jesus captive He said in (Luke 22:42) “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” KJV
(i) True Humility or the act of being humble comes only when you submit to the will of God. Not just part of it. You can’t just pick and choose what you’re going to submit to and what you’re going to refuse to do.
(d) The Christian that is in PRIDE doesn’t listen to God. He does his own thing and asks God to bless it.
II) What does HUMILITY have to do with the ANOINTING? EVERYTHING.
A) If you want the anointing of God flowing in your life you have to be totally submissive to God, to His will and His plans.
1) You have to humble yourself under the might hand of God.
(a) You have to have the attitude that Jesus had, “Father, not my will, but your will be done.”
B) You have to adopt God’s ways of doing things before you can enjoy the success the anointing brings.
1) You will have to humble yourself before God before He will exalt you and bless you.
2) The Bible is full of accounts of men who did exactly that.
C) In (1 KINGS 3) Solomon was the newly crowned king. God told him that He would give him anything that he asked for.
1) It would have been easy for Solomon to get into pride.
(a) He could have thought, “Look how great I am. I have so much power and authority. No one better do a thing against me.”
(b) But Solomon didn’t let PRIDE get in.
2) Listen how he prayed. 1 KINGS 3:7-9
(a) In (V 7) Solomon said, “I am but a little child.”
(b) Solomon wasn’t a little child in the natural sense, but what he was saying was, “Father, I am as a little child. I don’t know how to lead this people; I’m inadequate to judge such a great country. I need your help, your guidance, and your instruction.”
(i) Solomon realized that his own knowledge and resources were limited, so he made a decision to seek God’s plans.
(ii) He chose to rely totally upon God, by doing that he tapped into God’s limitless power and resources.
3) How did God respond to Solomon’s humility, his act of being humble? 1 KINGS 3:12-14
(a) Because Solomon humbled himself before God, to seek God’s plans and not his own, God exalted with both riches and honor.
(i) Solomon tapped into that break through anointing.
(b) (1 Peter 5:6) Says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” KJV
III) What does this all have to do with the anointing and how does it pertain to you?
A) If you want the break through anointing in your life so that you can break through into the favor of God, which would include Prosperity, healing, deliverance from the enemy, safety, soundness on mind, and the blessings of God, you have to humble yourself before God.
B) Prosperity, healing and all the promises of God are in the power of the anointing. If you want the break through anointing, you must humble your self before God and get involved in God’s plans, and He will exalt you.
