The Word Revealed (1-4)

The Word is eternal, co-equal with God.
The Word is creator, nothing has been made without Him. Everything was made through Him.
The Word is life! Not merely physical existence, but life as God intended it. Alive spiritually and in relationship with the Father.
The light shines (it continues to shine, present tense) in darkness and darkness has not overcome or comprehended it.

The Witness’ Record (5-8)

John was a light, but not the Light.
John 5:35–36 ESV
He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.
He is the voice crying in the wilderness (will anyone listen?). He is the forerunner preparing the way for the coming King. He spoke of one born after him, as the One who came before Him.
He who comes after me ranks before, because he was before me!
Truth came in with the Law, Grace and Truth come in the Person of Jesus Christ.

The World’s Response (9-13)

Reject or Receive.
He was presented before His own, but rejected by most as the King. He was not what they expected. He revealed their own sinfulness by exposing their self-righteousness.
Those who receive and believe are given the right to become children of God.
Will you receive Him?
