Psalm 46:1–11 NLT
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world. He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude
Introduction
I was meditating on Psalms 46:1-11 which has one of my favorite verses in this passage its verse 10 “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” (NLT).
I had a few thoughts this week from this passage that I'd like to share with you today.
So here we go.......
1.) Things Happen
It’s a good idea for us to first realize that things will happen in this life and some will be good and some bad.
It’s a natural part of this fallen world that we live in. For example some bad example might be.......
Bad
Natural disasters, pain, suffering, disease and even death. We can all think of some bad things that have happened in our lifes, friends, family or throughout the world. How about 9-11, Coronavirus, loss of a job, death of a friend or family member. We could continue this list.
Good
How about when we had our first kid, grandchild, job promotion, new house car we could also continue with more things here but we need to continue on to our next point......
2.) God is our Refuge and Strength v1,11
Secondly we need to understand that God is our refuge and strength. The one that we can lean on and trust to protect, shelter and give us the strength we need to face whatever we need to.
3.) Gods Ready To Help v1
Thirdly he is always ready to help us we just need to look to him, ask and trust him. What might you need to trust him with? Why not ask? He’s always ready to help! God’s not gone anywhere he’s near and ready if you’ll reach out to him.
In closing the best thing we can do is what verse 10 says.......BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD! When we do this we can make more sense of life because we are in oneness with the one that is in control no matter what happens. Let’s not only be still but listen to him as he speak to us during the stillness.
Let me close with a illustration......
