A Geek, a Cop, and a Thrill-Seeker Walk into a Church…
Pastor Larry Davis
6 God, by his grace through Christ, called you to become his people. So I am amazed that you are turning away so quickly and believing something different than the Good News. 7 Really, there is no other Good News. But some people are confusing you; they want to change the Good News of Christ. 8 We preached to you the Good News. So if we ourselves, or even an angel from heaven, should preach to you something different, we should be judged guilty! Galatians 1:6-8 (NCV)
The Religiously Confused of Our Day:
1. Heady Knowsis. (The Religious Geek)
We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 1 Corinthians 8: 1 (NIV)
2. Doey Right. (The Religious Cop)
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. Matthew 7:5 (NLT)
3. Chilibumpus. (The Religious Thrill Seeker)
But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” Luke 10:20 (NLT)
Losing My Religion:
1. Remember your First Love.
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Rev 3: 4 (NIV)
2. Enjoy the Diversity of Faith without becoming envious.
4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 1 Corinthians 12:4–6 (NLT)
3. Make knowing Jesus the ultimate Goal.
8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ… Philippians 3:8 (NIV)
One Last Question:
Who do you need to shake off, the Geek, Cop, or Thrill-Seeker to focus more on Christ?
