There will be homework Gabe’s birthday is this upcoming week April 23rd Passage in Psalm By: Serrena Velazquez Psalm Chapter 1 Verses 1-6 1.The truly happy person doesn’t follow wicked advice, doesn’t stand on the road of sinners, and doesn’t sit with the disrespectful. 2. Instead of doing those things, these persons love the LORD ’s Instruction, and they recite God’s Instruction day and night! 3.They are like a tree replanted by streams of water, which bears fruit at just the right time and whose leaves don’t fade. Whatever they do succeeds. 4.That’s not true for the wicked! They are like dust that the wind blows away. 5. And that’s why the wicked will have no standing in the court of justice— neither will sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6. The LORD is intimately acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked is destroyed. James 4:7 Bible ideal of message We Have What We need to win every battle if we but Follow Him Sermon series How to know thy king I WAS THINKING BACK TO A TIME WHEN I TOOK SO MUCH PRIDE IN MY STRENGTH. Growing up, my brothers and i were all tall and skinny. Yet we truly believed, (in our own heads..lol) that we were strong enough to fight any battle that came our way. Fast-forward to the the present, with each of us learning that we had a gift when it came to lifting weights and strength training. With that knowledge came puffed up pride in what we were doing, in our strength… in ourselves. But as problems, emergencies, high’s and low’s, hill’s and valley’s arrived unscheduled in our lives. Not one ounce of that physical strength could help us. We thought it could… we tried in every way possible to know avail. So how do we win these battles. By looking to the One who saved us… looking to His example! Knowing The Enemy Know Thy Enemy WE CANNOT FIGHT UNLESS WE KNOW WHO IS THE ENEMY 2nd Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we live in the body, we do not wage war in an unspiritual way, since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ. Ephesians 6:11-17 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics[g] of the Devil. 12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. 14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, 15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.[h] 16 In every situation take the shield of faith, and with it you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word. ILLUSTRATION After coming to know the Lord i started having lots of weird dreams. Some i remember very little and then there are some that the details are so specific i couldn’t forget them if i tried. i remember laying down and going to sleep and in my dream i found myself in a room with a woman and a little boy. There was but one door to get in and out of the room. At that door i could hear knocking on a door that led to it being broke open. The lady and child in the room were scared and hid behind me, counting on me to protect them. The entity or for lack of better word the demon in my dream began to attack me to get to the woman and child. I could not recognize who they were but in my heart i knew they were people that my heart cared about because i fought for them as if they were my very wife and son. I took so much pride in my strength at this time because of my weightlifting and strength training, and i took that pride in my strength into my dream Application 1st Peter 5:8 Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Even though i gave every ounce of strength trying to protect the woman and child who i assume were my wife and child, i still lost. I remember waking from my dream. i couldn’t shake what had just happened. it played over in my mind until i feel back asleep. I found myself, once sleep back in the same dream, with everything repeating itself down to the last detail. Awake again i wondered what i was doing wrong where i couldn’t protect them. I finally realized why i was losing. I trusted in my own strength instead of the one who strengthens me… and i had yet to realize who i was actually fighting. I went back to sleep but not before grabbing my bible, placing it on my chest and falling back asleep. For a third time i found myself back in the same dream. This time i used the Word of God to fight and without a struggle i found victory over my enemy. Instead of taking pride in myself, i now take pride in the Lord alone and His example. It is He who gives what we need to be victorious against the enemy in every facet of life. The Enemy Can Only Attack You 3 ways MATTHEW 4:1-11-- THE TEMPTATIONS OF JESUS FROM SATAN'S ATTACKS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Then the Spirit led Jesus up into the wilderness so that the devil might tempt him. After Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights, he was starving. The tempter came to him and said, “Since you are God’s Son, command these stones to become bread.” Jesus replied, “ It’s written, People won’t live only by bread, but by every word spoken by God . ” After that the devil brought him into the holy city and stood him at the highest point of the temple. He said to him, “ Since you are God’s Son, throw yourself down; for it is written, I will command my angels concerning you, and they will take you up in their hands so that you won’t hit your foot on a stone. Jesus replied, “ Again it’s written, Don’t test the Lord your God . ” Then the devil brought him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. He said, “I’ll give you all these if you bow down and worship me.” Jesus responded, “ Go away, Satan, because it’s written, You will worship the Lord your God and serve only him . ” The devil left him, and angels came and took care of him. After Jesus was baptized by John the baptist… He was lead into the wilderness to fasts for 40 days and 40 nights. Like any other human, which Christ was full man. Philippians 2:6-8 6. who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. 7. Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8. He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross. Instead of using His Power or calling upon the God the Father… He became our example and not only fought satan using the Word of God But in doing so began His mission. ILLUSTRATION We have so many struggles in this life of ours… a million worries. At times these struggles are so prevalent it seems that we are in a desert of our own. This is the way lot of people feel with the Corona virus going on. Satan tells us in our mind that we are going to run out of food and instead of trusting God we should stock up and hoard supplies, At the expense of others. This truly shows a lack of love for our fellow man. Instead of following the fears of not having food, we have to look to God’s Word in which He tells us over and over that He will provide for us. Every temptation that satan used against the Lord failed and after resisting the devil using God’s Word satan left Him. His Word says that if we resist the devil He will flee. Christ showed us how to resist… We resist by recognizing the battle which always falls under only 3 distinct categories… “Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life” Every sin out there falls under one of these 3 aforementioned. Every sin in the world falls under one of these 3 and if we follow the example of our Lord and realize that we cannot conquer our battles in our own strength, we would have more victories in our life. We have to trust in God and His Word Knowing Your Enemy Matthew 4:10 10 Then Jesus told him, “Go away,[f] Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him.”[g] In conclusion we will all have temptations and battles in your life and the life of those around you. For some, it doesn’t matter how many times they are faced with the same battle or temptation, regardless of how good their motives are, they will continue to lose every battle they engage in. All they know is their own strength. To be victorious in our lives we must understand who are enemy actually is and who our Lord and King is. We also must realize that because someone knows and uses the Word doesn’t mean that they have our best interest in mind. Satan used the Word in the temptations of our Lord. What people say and what they actually do are 2 different things. Know thy enemy…. follow your King and then serve the Lord.
