Make Jesus Lord! - Do not do what is right in your own eyes.

Brief Overview of Judges
Deborah and Barak 4-5
Gideon 6-8
Jephthah 10-12
Samson 13-16
Everyday life 17-20
Judges 17:1–2 ESV
1 There was a man of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Micah. 2 And he said to his mother, “The 1,100 pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and also spoke it in my ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it.” And his mother said, “Blessed be my son by the Lord.”
The Appearance of Godliness
Micah means: Who is like Yahweh! The correct response is, No One!
Micah is a thief. He responds in fear and not repentance.
When Jesus is Lord, how does a person respond?
His mother removes the curse by uttering a blessing in the name of the Lord.
Yahweh is God’s proper name and is translated as Lord in scripture.
Judges 17:3–5 ESV
3 And he restored the 1,100 pieces of silver to his mother. And his mother said, “I dedicate the silver to the Lord from my hand for my son, to make a carved image and a metal image. Now therefore I will restore it to you.” 4 So when he restored the money to his mother, his mother took 200 pieces of silver and gave it to the silversmith, who made it into a carved image and a metal image. And it was in the house of Micah. 5 And the man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and household gods, and ordained one of his sons, who became his priest.
When Jesus is Lord we do not make idols.
Exodus 20:4–5a ESV
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,
We worship God alone as Christ as our high priest and Lord.
Exodus 20:3 ESV
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
Hebrews 8:1–2 ESV
1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.
Judges 17:6 ESV
6 In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Does this sound familiar?
Who is king in your life?
Who is Lord in your life?
The author of Judges is longing for the day when the King of King rules.
Do you long for that day?
Revelation 17:14 ESV
14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”
1 Timothy 6:12–13 ESV
12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession,
1 Timothy 6:14–16 ESV
14 to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
