The LORD is My Shepherd Psalm 23: 5 Thou preparedst a table for me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Three very distinct phrases in our English. Each one tells a different aspect of the Shepherd and us. 1. _________________ The Shepherd has prepared a table. I don’t do any of the work; He does it _______. It certainly gives the idea of us as a person, and of God preparing what we need. God has a perfect idea of what I ______, even before I know I need it. This is done in the presence of my enemies. Even though those enemies are closing in, the Shepherd has set a table of necessities in front of me, and in their presence. They can ______ what the Shepherd is doing for us. They can see that the Shepherd is __________. They can see that the Shepherd has done the preparation. And in my mind, this can do only one thing to the enemies: ___________ them. When we see God supply the provision of our needs, when we see the preparation, we need to be sure to share that with someone. 2. _____________ The words anoint and oil, as used here, mean _____. Yes, fat. Not the fat where we are overweight. It means fat, in that I have _____ that I need. The Shepherd prepared a table for me; I have now eaten. I am now fat, in the sense that my needs have been met. We are fat on the blessings that brought the food. And the fatness is directed toward my _______. Why? I believe it is so we _____________ the goodness of the Lord. Our head has eyes to see His goodness; it has ears to hear His goodness; it has a mouth to share His goodness; it has a brain to remember and dwell on and share His ____________. 3. ________________ The last phrase in this verse: My cup runneth over. When a cup is running over, there is ______ than enough. And that more is not just to be kept for our own use. It should be used to help those that we are aware of, who have a need. Are ____ saturated? Take a look. Has God filled your cup to overflowing? Have you missed it? In keeping with this entire psalm, each phrase makes a reference to ____. All of this is done, by the Almighty, infinite, expansive God – for you and me as an individual.
