I is amazing what impast a noise can make.
My dogs can go from sleeping to hyper as soon as they hear the noise of apag of chips. Our cat comes running when he hears the sound of the tin opiner.
We also react to sounds. The sound of the things that go bump in the night is the terror of many children and their imaginations.
The sound of a siren, causes fear and alarm.
The noise of nature as you talk a walk in the forest makes you calm.
People also make noise. The sound of our wives baking in the kitchen, the sound of our children playing with their friends.
These sound delight our hearts and souls as we hear them.
Some noises that we make do the opposite:
The sound of a baby cryinmg immedietly puts us in a state of alrm.
The sound of a loved one rasining their voice in anger is hard to hear.
and of course the most dreaded sound of them all: My Fellow south africans...
Today i want to speak aboout a very speckfic noise -a noise that brings delight and joy not only to all of us, but to the Lord as well.
A Joyful Noise
A Joyful Noise
1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
The Hbrew word for a joyful noise is actually well known - Ho-ra! or as we often say it: Ho-ray.
It is a loud cry of victory, often used a s a battle cry.
And who is to lift up the noise? - all ye lands.
Everyone who has ben touched by God, washed by his blood, and filled with his Spirit - make a noise of joy, offer up a holy ho-ra as we all, around the world lift up our voices about the other noises.
The noise of fear and doubt, the noise of hate and evil - all ye lands, all ye children of the Lord, go outside, open your windows, proclaim it with boldness before the Heathens ; Jesus Christ is Lord, Ho-Ra and Halleluja!
But here is the thing - Shouting with our lips is only half of the joyful noise.
A shout of victory and praise is wonderful, but it can also be deceptive - in the world cup, a story of a couple who went with 2 sets of jeresy made the rounds - they wore their england shirts when they came in, but were caught wearing South african shirts when they came out - they cheared for both teams, they were not loiyal to eather, but to anyone watching, they were celebrating a victory, whcih they had no sacrifice in.
Jesus warns us:
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
As wonderful as it is to cheer and shout, our shouts of joy must be backed up a display of faith.
sp the Psalmest goes on:
1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Raised hands must also serving hands. Raised hands must also be helping hands. Raised hands must also be loving hands.
And so you join in the ranks of all of God’s faithful servants.
Abraham was God’s servant.
5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
Moses was God’s servant.
31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
Joshua was God’s servant.
8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
David was God’s servant.
18 Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
We are blessed with the honor of serving the living God.
But we must not just in any old way.
We are told:
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
We must serving him wit gladness
A joyful noise backed up by joyful service is a magnest for God’s joyful blessings!
The bible tells us:
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
We must not render our service to God in thse ways:
1: Grudgingly - This means in a reluctant manner. It means that you dont feel like it, its the same as being nagged out of your impostrance and saying “Oh ok, fine!”.
Its not with any joy or enthisiam.
The noise we must make should be “Yes Lord Send me!” NOT Ok fine, ill go.
And secondly we must not serve with:
Necessity - This is serving not because you wan t to, but because you feel like you have to. It is how many people go to work in the morning, or least how they did, with no joy and exitement, they had to.
Its to ma ethe noise “Well if i have too!” as opposed to “Thank you Lord for sending me!!”
What noise do you make when its time to serve? What noise do you make when its time to help make a church dinner? what noise do you make when its time to even go to church? What noise do you make when its time to pay your tithes? What noise do you make when its time to pray? What noise do you make when its time to study God;s word?
look at the next joyful noise:
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
This is the joyful noise of trust over the fearful cry of fear and the arrogant cry of pride.
Firstly:
You did not make you, God did. You are not a product of your imagianrt god of evolution you are a creation of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
So the cry is not a raised fist to God like Stalin on his death bed - right before God cast him into eternal fire. The cry is one of humble adoration to the God who made you.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Second:
It is not a cry of fear for those who do not trust in God.
As we go through life and its terrors sourround us, we may be sore tempted to cry out in fear! But God’s common is simple:
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
But father our cry! should be a song of praise cause the Lord is my shephred and we are the sheep of his pasture and the good shephred loves us!!!
Lets look at the final joyful noise:
Lets look at the final joyful noise:
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
One of the most common noises you hear today is complaining and moaning.
Its actually amazing what people will grumble about - anything and everything.
The bible tells us:
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
and jude points out a special kind of evil even in many churches:
16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
Mumeres and complaiers - always making a noise.
The food was cold, i diddnt like the potatos they were hard, the sermon is too long, the music is too loud, the fan is to strong… it goes on and on and on...
I often think that if some people were Mary, when she poured out her fragaced oil on Jesus some would have said: Oh i dont like that smell!
Rather when we enter into His gates we should lift up a voice of thanksgiving! And a shout of praise.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
A thanful heart is a heart that God will bless. A mouth full of praise is a mouth God will satisfy!
To give thanks unto God and to be content with what you have and to be grateful for any work the church tries to bless you with - this attitude is one of a true godliness.

Folks take note of the various noses you make:
Are noises of pride, fear, rebellion, complaining?
Or are they the sound of a child God rejoycing, prasing, thanking and honouring God?
What is the soundtrack of your life?
is it: Its my party and ill cry if i want too?
Or give thanks with a grateful heart?
