Deuteronomy 6:5 NKJV
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
What is is to love your God with all of your heart?
my First thought is David for God chose David to their the King of Israel not because he was above reproach not because he was sinless or perfect but because David was known to God as a man after Gods own heart.
Acts 13:22 NKJV
22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.
1. David was Humble
Psalm 62:9 NKJV
9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor.
David saw himself not more than what he was
Humility is something that is gained and practiced as we grow in wisdom and grace. Easton’s 1897 Bible Dictionary defines “humility” as: a prominent Christian grace. It is a state of mind well pleasing to God; it preserves the soul in tranquility and makes us patient under trials Biblically speaking, humility is the opposite of pride.
Deuteronomy 8:2–3 NKJV
2 And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. 3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
2. Respectful and Reverent towards the Lord
Psalm 147:10–11 NKJV
10 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.
Psalm 31:9 NKJV
9 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief, Yes, my soul and my body!
3. Faithful and Obedient
Psalm 23:6 NKJV
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Psalm 119:34 NKJV
34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
4. Faithfulness
Proverbs 28:20 NKJV
20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.
Part of why David is called a man after God’s own heart is that he had absolute faith in God. Nowhere in Scripture is this point better illustrated than in 1 Samuel 17 where David as a young shepherd boy fearlessly slew the Philistine, Goliath. Shortly before the duel, we see direct evidence of David’s faith when David says, “‘The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.’ And Saul said to David, ‘Go, and the LORD be with you!’” (verse 37). David was fully aware that of the Sovereignty of God was in control of his life, and he had faith that God would deliver him from impending danger. How else would one venture into a potentially fatal situation with such calm and confidence? David knew early on in life that God was to be trusted and obeyed. As we see in Scripture, David’s faith pleased God, and God rewards David for his faithfulness.
