Bottomline: A humble heart.

Intro-

If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3

If love(if Jesus) has changed you then it should lead to a desire and determination for unity with Christ-followers.

It’s why Jesus above all prayed for unity for his disciples in John 17.

Unity is something that should set us apart from everyone else.

Above almost all else, God desires unity of His children. When we find common ground, we find joy.

3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you. -CS LEwis

Humility is a brave act of obedience and acknowledgement of God.

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” – Rick Warren

11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

May Christ teach us to look beyond ourselves so we can see Him in the eyes of others.

Lord give us humble hearts...

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

7 rather, he made himself nothing

by taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness.

8 And being found in appearance as a man,

he humbled himself

by becoming obedient to death—

even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

and gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

May we walk so closely we Christ that we become like Him.

In Jesus we see the perfect lamb, the humble man, divine deliver, the servant King, our everything.

Paul for Everyone: The Prison Letters The Mind of the Messiah (Philippians 2:5–11)

As you look at the incarnate son of God dying on the cross the most powerful thought you should think is: this is the true meaning of who God is. He is the God of self-giving love.

12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” u Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

So in this time in our world…what does self-giving love look like?

What does it look like to be a light to a world in the dark
