Intro

Hey everyone, I hope you’re staying safe and healthy. Listen, right now is certainly a time of uncertainty. We all know that, but even while things are changing day by day and we don’t know how long things will be in disarray, we can know for sure that our trust is in God who never changes.
One of my favorite books of Scripture is Isaiah. I really love the passage of Isaiah 6:1-7 where Isaiah has a vision of the Lord. Hear this:
Isaiah 6:1–7 ESV
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
This encounter that Isaiah had with God changed his life forever. I can only imagine how he must have felt having seen God like that! What an amazing experience that must have been! And I think that we all need to be reminded of exactly what Isaiah saw in his vision.
Because I think that part of the problem is that when life gets crazy and we are in uncertain times, when we are scared of what the future holds, sometimes we forget that God is on His throne. It can be easy to forget that He is still in control. That He reigns supreme. That no matter how much things here on earth change, He never does. And knowing that, well that can change our lives. It certainly did for Isaiah.
Twenty chapters after Isaiah saw the Lord on the throne, he writes:
Isaiah 26:3–4 ESV
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
The Lord God is an everlasting rock. Trust in Him right now is more important than ever because of everything going on in the world. I’m not sure about where your heart is at right now, but I trust that God is still on His throne and that no matter how dark things might seem right now, the future is bright. It’s bright because of the sacrifice that He made for you and I and all who would believe in Him so that we may have everlasting life. He still reigns. And nothing, nothing in this world will change that. No pandemic, no school closures, no unemployment, no quarantine, nothing.
