Welcome
Introduction
We are going to be broadcasting weekly until this ends
Please join me every week
Learn about Jesus
Learn about the Good News
Mature in your faith
Come to know what you believe
Starting a brand new series
Walking through the book of Mark
Mark is the shortest of the Gospels
The point was to show who Christ was
readable to a general audience
Perhaps the first Gospel written
Most say that Matthew and perhaps Luke were used Mark as source documents
Turn with me to the Gospel of Mark 1:1
Mark 1:1 NKJV
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Thats all we are going to take for this week.
Prayer
Mark opens up this book in a powerful way
Beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Literally translated this means
The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God
This almost forces the reader to think, what Good News?
Each Gospel writer opens up differently
Matthew opens up with a very jewish flavor
Stating genealogies
Luke opens up like more of a doctoral thesis
John begins by ensuring we completely understand the divinity of Christ
I must admit I like Mark’s the best
The Good News Of Jesus Christ
One mentions
Mark may picturing Isaiah 52:7
Helps us form an accurate foundation
a deeper understanding
a confirmation of what Mark was referring to
Isaiah 52:7 NKJV
How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
Salvation has come at last
Reading different commentator
Many argue this was the proclamation of victory
End-time salvation had come
Our path to God
Our Salvation is at hand
Jesus is that Good News
The Gospel of Christ teaches
The Bible teaches
that there is good news for those of us that believe
But if there is good there must be bad
Just as with hot there is cold
Or with light there is dark
So is there bad with good
What am I referring to
Let me pause real quick
If you’ve never heard of the creation museum in Kentucky
Highly reccommended
Life size version of Noah Ark
Takes your breath away
I remember one exhibit that went into the descrution of this world
I remember walking into a hall
One sign said “Sin changed everything”
Another gave the results of the ‘curse’
Now remember God cursed all of creation because of the sin of Adam and eve
But this exhibit
It was actually quite creepy
They had scratched into a door
like a horror movie
said “The Worlds not safe anymore”
it goes into picture of the Holocaust
wars
drugs
death
better yet I have a video of that exhibit

It wasn’t supposed to be like this

I specifically rememeber a sign that mentioned
IT WASN”T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS
We live in a world where destruction is the norm
were violence is praised
were sin is glorified
were promotion of self is worshiped
were God is mocked
were Jesus is a joke
were lust is envied
and violation of God’s will perfected.
***SHORT PAUSE***
Turn with me to Romans 1
I was doing Bible study this week
Look what the word of God says regarding this paradigm
Look at what it says shifted and where our free will gets us
Romans 1:28–32 NLT
Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.
We live in a world where anything pure is considered offensive
Where God’s will is a joke
Can you imagine what the initial readers of Mark would have thought
The Good News?
What Good News?
After all the Jews were a conquered people
dominated by Rome
Persecuted beyond belief
Killed for sport
What Good News?
WHAT GOOD NEWS!?
You know Paul understood this
Paul acknowledge this in his own writings?
Look with me at Romans 8
You see the Jews waited desperately for their Messiah
They waited for God to come and redeem them
To deliver them from their suffering
Look what Paul says about our current state
and the hope of the future
Romans 8:20-22
Romans 8:20–22 NLT
Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
The Good News of Jesus Christ!
What was Jesus going to do?
Isaiah 52:7 NKJV
How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
The good news that our coming king
that our Messiah
that our savior
our highpriest
our God
had come to save us
that our salvation was at hand
Like I stated this world
never meant to be filled with such evil

Flip the Script; Upside down kingdom

So then if the Gospel is the good news
What does that look like
***Transition to biblical story***
I believe the bible tells a story
A true story
As a matter of fact I believe every word in this book
I may not understand it all
But I know it is God’s revelation for mankind
Because of this I believe
The Bible tells story
A continuous story
Of how God is working through history
A story of Redemption
A story of Love
A story Salvation
But also a story of Justice
Because I believe this
I truly believe we can picture
we have a description
of what this world was meant to be
As we look into the beginning of the Bible
We see utter perfection
We see the world in harmony
As matter of fact death did not enter the world
Until the fall
until the original sin committed by Adam
Isn’t it interesting that you don’t see animals being used for food
Confirmed in Isaiah 11
complete description of perfection
As a matter of fact let me read just a few verses
I really want this to hit home
I want you to understand
I want you to get it
I want you to know the promise
What motivated the apostles
What has motivated the believers through the centuries
What has been the one consistent teaching
The Gospel is the Good News that Christ came into this world
To save us from our Sins
We can join Him in His Kingdom
Becuase of the cross
But what is that Kingdom going to look like?
Isaiah 11:1–9 NLT
Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot— yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay. He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked. He will wear righteousness like a belt and truth like an undergarment. In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all. The cow will graze near the bear. The cub and the calf will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra. Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm. Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, for as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord.
I believe this is what we have to look forward to
I believe this is what Jesus promised us
Paul mentioned this over and over
The pursuit of the prize
He was a slave to the Gospel
Surrendered it all just to catch a glimpse of God’s glory
He had to have it
He became obsessed with it
He was will to suffer and die for it
Are you willing
Do you fully understand the Gospel
Do you know what the promises of God really are?
Are His promises for you to prosper and benefit in every way in this life?
Or is His guarantee
His stamp of approval
Set on your eternal home?
Look with me in Revelation 21:3-4
Revelation 21:3–4 NLT
I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
and move on down a few verses
Revelation 22:3 NKJV
And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.
You know I remember a long time ago
I was sitting in a sermon
listening to my dad
For those of you that don’t know
My dad has been a pastor for 40 years
He runs a church called open door fellowship
street church
work with people of all types of issues
I remember the last time I was there I was reminded
Reminded by the smell of people that hadn’t showered
Reminded by the smell of alcohol
Reminded by the look on peoples face
Reminded by the hardships that you could tell had over taken their lives
That THIS IS WHERE JESUS WOULD BE
If Jesus were on this earth right now he would be sitting in that church
with those we push a side
those we don’t appreciate
those we shun
That is where Jesus would be
But as I hear Mark open up this book with the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ
I see a promise
I see a hope
I see a change
I see a world that was once filled with sin
Now filled with people who know God
People who want to be with God
People who desire to serve God
People who live by and breathe by His Word
A world of perfection
A world where God is with us as it says in Revelation
I find my motivation to continue on
To take as many people to heaven with me as possible
This was the motivation of the Gospel writers
This was the motivation of the apostles
This is ought to be our motivation.
Now I know we all have our different point and arguments on theology
I know the difference between Predestination and free will but for now
Let us focus on the command of Jesus
That command is to GO
Go to the world
Preach the Good News
Tell them about Jesus
Tell everyone
We can discuss theology later
Please don’t get me wrong
I love doctrine
I love theology
But the simple realty is most of our world doesn’t know Jesus
Mark 16:15–16 NKJV
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
And again in Matthew 28:18-20
Matthew 28:18–20 NKJV
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
and again in Luke 24:44-46
Acts 1: 3 - 8
Romans 10
The command is clear!
Go into the world and preach the Good News
Jesus has come
The Kingdom is here
Our King
Our Messiah
The promised Messiah
The Good News!
If you’re at home I hope you said Amen!
that is the announcement mark is making
This is He
This is who we have been waiting for!
Look I get it,
Its difficult in this day and age
We have so many conflicting messages
We have so many different people teaching
So many different things
Much of it is false
If I could encourage you today to do one thing,
Get in the Word of God
Get in the Bible
Read the Word for yourself
Eternity is at stake
Christ came to fix the sin problem
The Gospel tell us that Christ died as the perfect sacrifice for our sin
He took our place
He took our deserved punishment
He took the entire worlds punishment upon himself
He took the wrath of God upon himself
He took our place on that cross
We belonged their
We deserved to be punished for our sin
But Jesus made a way
Jesus was God reaching to mankind with love
Jesus knew He was going to die
He know exactly what He was getting in to.
He Knew how much punishment he was going to take
He was not surprised
He did it because he loves you
The Bible says if you accept the Gospel by faith
If you repent of your sins
Repent means to ask forgiveness and turn the other way
Repent of your sins
Have faith in what he did on the cross that his sacrifice is sufficient
Have faith that Jesus was God in the flesh
That He died for your sins
That He rose again on the third day
That his ressurection proved that He was God
That his ressurection guaranteed that we will be with Him
If you beleive in the Gospel message,
He promises you that you will be with Him in eternity.
Its an eternal choice and one that you should dwell on day and night.
Now I saw a video by francis chan and I’d like to play it for you
Perhaps on of the greatest sermon illustrations I’ve ever heard
If you don’t know Christ, if you felt that tug on your heart
If you have questions, please please don’t let this moment pass
Please contact me at any time and let me help you find Jesus.
Lets pray
