Hey Grace Family!
Happy to be here again spending time in God’s word together.
This week I have been encouraged and want to encourage you with 2 Timothy 3:14-17 a very well known passage as interestingly enough, I have felt that this more time at home has been fruitful, as I can spend more time in God’s word in prayer and reflection, so Amen for that!
But one thing I have been trying to focus on is using my time wisely, how can I prepare to get back to the normal rhythm of life?, which it seems like prayer, bible and reflection seem wise at the moment (as it always does) but in what way is it wise? I think Paul touches on this beautifully in this passage to Timothy for he says this,
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it
and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
What Paul is saying here to Timothy, his companion in the proclamation of the gospel is reminding him to reflect on the two sources of knowledge that he has as he continues on in the faith,
Remember what he has learned from godly peers- Paul would be one of them
Remember the Biblical writings that you have grown up with
Ultimately the knowledge for the Christian is centered upon the Bible because what Timothy has learned from the Godly peers in his life would have been teaching and wisdom based upon the Bible.
This is why Paul says this in Verse 16 and 17
so lets read these two verses.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Now this passage is well known because of its proclamation of the Scriptures divine authority, because it is God breathed, but what is encouraging is that these authoritative words are God’s gift and tools for the believer- that the man of God may be complete, equipped for ever good work! So Grace Baptist Family, what this means for us during this time is taking advantage of the time to further prepare for every good work.
We have been putting out biblical devotions for you guys to be encouraged and learn from our Pastors and leaders in our Church, There is for a lot of us more time to dive into the countless number of books and articles from faithful men in the faith that give helpful teaching from the Scriptures on all sorts of topics. There is more time to be diving into Scripture itself talking with your heavenly Father through prayer, time to reflect on what God is teaching you, so many avenues to strengthen your relationship with God and learn so that you are prepared for the work of ministry, to make disciples to love your neighbors and serve our Church Family all for the name and glory of Jesus. So take advantage of this so you are ready to get back to a somewhat normal rhythm of life and its business.
Prepare and use this time well Grace Family,
Grace to you!
