Honoring God
Honoring God
Does God want to be Honored?
In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Therefore you pray in this way:
“Our Father who is in heaven,
may your name be treated as holy.
To ‘hallow’ something means to make it very special, to honor it, to respect it. When we ‘hallow’ God’s name, we show honor to the Lord and give him the glory he deserves.”
“It comes from an old word that means ‘holy,’”
“so when we ‘hallow’ God’s name, we treat it as holy and set it apart.
1. examples of things or places we Honor
2. How can we rob God of His Glory?
we can rob God’s name of glory in other ways besides swear- ing. If we take credit for what God does for us and don’t praise him, that’s robbing him of glory, and if we’re more concerned about what we want than what he wants. If we don’t thank God for his blessings but just take them for granted, we’re not hallowing his name.”
Are we hollowing God’s name: Who get’s the glory at Rise Fellowship?
Reason for all we do should be the Glory of God.
not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,
I am the Lord, that is My name;
And My glory I will not give to another,
Nor My praise to carved images.
Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice,
The villages that Kedar inhabits.
Let the inhabitants of Sela sing,
Let them shout from the top of the mountains.
For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it;
For how should My name be profaned?
And I will not give My glory to another.
One of the major themes of the sermon on the mount is right motives for Christian living:
Do we pray, give, and practice spiritual disciplines in order to be praised by others, or to please the Lord and glorify him? Does it upset us when we aren’t honored for the sacrifices we make and the work we do? Are we seeking to build our own kingdom or his kingdom? When people see our good works, do they praise us or glorify our Father in heaven?
but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord—
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
The great plan of Salvation has it’s goal
to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
We can Glorify God by the way we use our bodies
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
We can Glorify God by being fruitful:
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
We don’t care who gets the credit we are willing to let others use their gifts as long as God gets the Glory.
Its is making God look good before a godless world.
Jesus is an example of a life that Glorified the Father: This is His work report.
I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
God is Glorified when he transforms impossible situations
God is Glorified by turning weakness into power
When we exalt God he exalts us
And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
The words of James Denney are worth reading again: “No man can bear witness to Christ and to himself at the same time. No man can give the impression that he himself is clever and that Christ is mighty to save.” The purpose of ministry is the glory of God.
