Introduction
Last week we were introduced to the prophet Habakkuk, a younger contemporary of Jeremiah, who prophesied in the throws of the Southern Kingdom of Judah and Benjamin’s destruction. We learned last week that Habakkuk was complaining to God about His peoples’ wickedness which seemed to go unnoticed by God. Habakkuk accuses God of not hearing his prayer, or seeing what he sees, and that even God’s law seem to be perverted and powerless. In other words, God you are doing NOTHING!
To which God responds to Habakkuk’s complaint by declaring that He is working, and that what He is doing is unbelievable…He is sending the Chaldeans to punish His people, using their own wicked wills to accomplish His purpose.
Habakkuk quickly complains again, this time reminding God that it is not in His character to use evil, and that if you continue with this plan, you will engage in covenantal treason against His people. So we ended last week with Habakkuk waiting on God’s response to this second accusation.
