Faithful Foundation

I. Romans 10:5 tells of Moses writing about the righteousness of those who live by the commandments.
A. God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses, in order to expose the sinfulness of His people.
God handed His statutes and rules down to impace the lives and expose the natural moral and spiritual flaws that existed within the nation of Israel, “God’s chosen people.”
Leviticus 18:5 “You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord. “
B. A faithful foundation goes beyond living out the letter of the Law, we then want to live out the spirit of the Law.
i. Romans 10: 6 begins Paul’s premiss that one cannot elevate themselves to a righteous status, on one’s own. As noted by his statement, “Do not say in your heart, “Who will ascend inot heaven?” (that is to bring Christ down). One cannot make Christ less holy, because His holiness does not depend on our goodness. His holiness is based on His diety.
ii. Secondly, our actions cant add to the holiness of Christ. We can’t be good enough to increase the position of Christ. His righteousness and purity stems from His diety “(that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”
iii. Christ’s holiness and righteousness exist because He is the physical display of the Triune Godhead. As Dietrich Bonheoffer stated, “Christ takes up physical presence on earth, so the individual believer as well as the body of believers should take up physical presence on earth.” His holiness is based on his being fully and physically God.
iv. God made Himself accessable to humanity most recently through Christ Jesus. Prior to the incarnation of Christ, He made Himself accessable through the fellowship in the garden of Eden, Abrahamic Covenant, Mosaic Covenant (Law), and through the prophetic oracles.
v. Isaiah 28: 16  therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’
Psalm 118: 22 “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”
