The LORD is my Shepherd
Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of
my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
1. Goodness and mercy. Goodness and mercy are two
Biblical truths that go together often. Goodness is
defined as something that is fair, fine, to be
___________ by someone. It depicts the blessings of
the Lord upon a person. Mercy is the withholding of a
judgment or punishment that ____________ be
meted out.
2. Shall follow. The Shepherd will always give us
goodness and mercy, as the events dictate. They will
be _______ _____ each step of the way.
3. Me. It’s personal between God and me.
4. All. All means ___________.
5. The days of my life. None of those knows how many
days those will be. Are we using our days to the
________ of our abilities?
6. I will dwell. To remain, to sit down, to abide. It gives
the picture of someone who has _________ in,
permanently.
7. In the house of the Lord. The house of the Lord is big.
And it is the house – of the Lord. Our Heavenly Father
will be there. We will have ____________ to Him,
face to face, any time.
8. Forever. In Heaven, forever.
But there are two more words that I skipped over:
A. Surely. Based upon what the Shepherd has done
in the ______, the Shepherd ______ ____ in the
future. What have you seen God do in your life?
David could say “surely” base on His experience
with God. We should be able to do the same.
B. And. David understands that through his life, God
has, and will, provide. Will care for him. Will
watch out over him. Then when this life is done,
he knows there is ________. So he says “And.”
God doesn’t _______ providing for us when we
pass away. He continues it, forever.
In this psalm, there is a progression of how the Shepherd
cares for the sheep: He is Shepherd in _________; He is
Shepherd in danger and _______; He is Shepherd in
______________.
Psalm 23 - just 6 verses – is full of Biblical truth. Let us learn
its truths, and apply them to our lives.
