Proclaiming the Lord’s death

When gather around this table as believers, some of us, because of our background use different terms when we reference this gathering, this remembering. Some would seem to have a more of church or denominational connection than a Biblical president. At another time that might be worth considering. Some reference this as:
Communion - taking communion - participation
Sacrament/eucharist - receiving the sacrament -transubstantiation
Breaking of bread - communion in the body of Christ - break bread as passed
1 Corinthians 10:16 ESV
The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
Lord’s Supper - 1 Cor 11:20
Lord’s Table
Today, l would suggest that we reflect for a few minutes on what the Apostle Paul reminded the believers in Corinth and us that we are doing.
Proclaiming the Lord’s death.
Proclaiming:
- aggellos - Announce, report, proclaim - aggelia - one sent - angel
kata - from above - given a message - God’s not ours
Mk 16:15 - proclaim the Gospel
Essential that we proclaim His message and that we get it right
The message did not focus on the element - not in the passover or in the Lord’s Supper
IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME
The Lord’s death
Body broken and blood shed - that was how and why Jesus died
Passover lamb had to die - body broken and blood on the door posts.
Does the visualization affirm the message or replace the message?
Jesus died. Jesus had to die - atonement for sin, justification for sin, propitiation - so what we confess our sins and the death that we deserve/repent of those sins, might have forgiveness as what we do not deserve - the righteousness of Christ is imputed to us.
Ephesians 2:1 ESV
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins
Ephesians 2:4–6 ESV
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Until He comes - Jesus died and rose from the dead - coming again.
Even as they proclaimed the Lord’s death, they proclaimed His having risen and coming again.
Jesus, that night in the upper room looked ahead
Matthew 26:29 ESV
I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Luke 22:16–18 ESV
For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
So for today - how do we proclaim His death until He comes
Not just the Lord’s supper
How we live
How we interact with other believers
OUR THEOLOGICAL CORRECTION IS AFFIRMED NOT ONLY BY OUR VERBAL CONFESSION BUT OUR IN LIFE EMBODIMENT OF WHAT WE PROFESS TO BELIEVE.
With that in mind let us examine ourselves - 1 Cor 11:28. -knowledge versus love - 1 Cor 8:1-13; personal rights versus the body - 1 Cor 9:1-27; idolatry - 1 Cor 10:1-22 ; liberty versus how seen by unbelievers and believers - 1 Cor 10:23-33; traditions versus the Word of God - 1 Cor 11:1-16
