Marital Arts Start with Unity:
Ephesians is About Unity and So is the Family.
Ephesians is About Unity and So is the Family.
Families are best when they are unified.
This has to start with the leadership of the family, which is the Dad and the Mom. SO, to have a unified family —> we need to have unified Marriages.
Marriages are best and most rewarding when they are unified.
Unified around Christ!
Marital Arts Start with Mutual Submission
Marital Arts Start with Mutual Submission
This is true in friendships, employer / employees, children and parents and in church life.
The HOME is the rehearsal field for all other fields.
The HOME is the rehearsal field for all other fields.
What does this look like?
v. 21 - Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ!
A good way to put this is Equality With Distinction.
Different specialties…based on gender and personality.
Before Going forward you need to help with me with something so none of us get in trouble, especially the preacher!
Say this with me - “Submit to one another and to God.” V. 21 is the key to this whole passage.
Last week, we read about the church being unified and focused on submission to God and Holy Living rather the passions of the flesh.
This week, we are still focused on God, but adding submission to one another.
Let’s say it again… “Submit to one another and to God.”
Now, keeping that in mind. Here is the God given order of the home.
Wife Submits to Husband (and to God)
Husband Submits to God (and to wife) - secret to a good marriage is RIGHT HERE!
Children submit to parents as good representatives of God and mentors LEADING them to God.
So, as we practice in our homes, we go out to other areas with Christ as our focus.
Christ is our Focus and He helps us serve - Especially in areas and with people who don’t believe. I can serve them BECAUSE OF CHRIST, v. 21 out of reverence for Christ.
Sermon Outlines on Ephesians Relationships (Ephesians 5:21–6:9)
C. Wife submits to her husband (1 Corinthians 11:3). This is tough, but look at the background.
1. In that society a woman was not a person but a tool for man.
2. She had no rights. A man could divorce her for any reason, but the woman could not divorce him.
3. Paul’s instruction is a giant step forward. Christianity freed women to be human.
The Foundation of Marital Arts Is Love:
The Foundation of Marital Arts Is Love:
Christ’s Love Shows Us How
Christ’s Love Shows Us How
I’m going to start in reverse order of this passage, because submission is a hot button topic.
Christ Cherishes the Church - He lovingly died for us, and prtoects us with the Holy Spirit. There is nothing that can get in the way of His love for us. We are cherished in His sight. Jesus died for the Church - We are called His bride, the Bride that He laid down His life for. He is seated in the presence of God in heaven on our behalf.
This Church is my bride - I died for her - she is holy because of my sacrifice.
Husbands Cherish Their Wives.
Husbands Cherish Their Wives.
Love like their own bodies.
Feeds and Cares,
Presents Her Pure and Without Blemish or Wrinkle,
Nourishes Her - emotionally, physically, intellectually
Cherishes Her - above all others, treasure her, care for her, protect her.
Wives Submit to their Husbands
Wives Submit to their Husbands
Why? Because of the way that he loves her! Like Christ Loves The Church.
This is order within the Church, Order Within the
Sacrifice Makes the Effort for the Other Person.
Sacrifice Makes the Effort for the Other Person.
•First, both spouses submit to Christ
•Husband loves and cherishes his wife.
•Wife submits and respects her husband.
Last thing that we notice here - has more need than ever to be said.
Notice that God’s Word says in verse 31, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
The one flesh union leading to new unified family unit!
need to say here is from the latter part of the passage.
