· What about Jesus?
o Olympic heroes will be made over the next fortnight
o Difficult to be a hero for any length of time...
§ 1/3 of the world is Christian, 20% think Jesus is a great prophet
§ His teachings underlie much of the world’s legal and political systems and morality
§ in language; prodigal Son, turning other cheek, not casting stones, good Samaritan, scapegoat

o a hero beyond other heroes
§ one who knows us perfectly, one that we can get to know!

· What did Jesus say? “The time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”
o the problem of sin
§ modern sins...!
· booking a table and not showing up
· taking coat hangers
· sponsoring and not paying
· leaving tray at McDs
· 11 items at 10 or less
· bottom layer of chocs
· phoning Australia from work
§ broken relationship with the God who made us
o restored relationship – made new and clean
§ sins are like scarlet, white as snow (Isaiah 1:18)

§ the peril that we have put ourselves in by our choices
o we confuse God’s anger with human anger...
