This is a introduction to the series, "The Christian Path." When we gave our lives to Jesus, or if we are thinking about it, it is important that we understand that our salvation is not a one-and-done experience. On day one we became a new creation. Here we were born of flesh and blood and on the day of our salvation we become born of the Spirit. This series will help us to not just enter through the narrow gate but also stay on the path until we get to the finish line.

Why the Christian Path?

It’s the Assignment

Matthew 28:18–19 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Ephesians 4:11–12 ESV
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,

Not a One-and-Done

John 3:3 ESV
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
If you are born again, the intent was not to leave you as infants, but you should be learning to feed yourself, walk, run, etc...
Hebrews 5:12 ESV
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,

There Is a Path

Matthew 7:13 ESV
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

What Is the Path?

If we use the analogy of the Gate and the Path, the gate would have to be our Conversion and the Path would be the disciplines of following Christ.
Changed and Rearranged
What If I Stumble?
Hearing From God, Talking to God, Learning About God
Jesus: Who He Is and What He Did
Holy Spirit
Walking with God, Walking with Other, Inviting Others to Walk With Us.
Our great hope is that through these lessons we gain some tools to have a successful and fruitful life in Christ.

Another Reason: Bad News, Good News.

Statistics
At least 85% of people who made a statement of faith continue past college age following Christ.
Why? The answers are many but revolve around 3 main thoughts.
Their conversion wasn’t real to begin with.
They never matured beyond the infancy stage to stand their ground when their faith was challenged.
If the Bible is right (which it is) there are few that find it.
I have taught this class many times in my life and the tragedy is most haven’t stayed on the path.
However the good news far out weighs the bad.

The Good News

If one person this year learns how to stay on the path that makes 2.
Next year, if 2… then 4
If 4 then 8
8-16, 16-32, 32-64
At that slow pace, with just me doing my job, and only one of you doing yours… In 25 years the world is saved. And that’s if I am the only saved person on the planet.
