7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

Matthew 5:16 NKJV

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Ephesians 2:10 NKJV

10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

1. Inventories create perspective.

when we look at our life in the cold light of truth, ( both the Good and the bad) we get a balanced view of our past and present.

when it comes to the character defects that we have and the resulting things we have done, the wrong things. we can see that we are not victims of others but of ourselves.

when we look at the good things we have done it keeps us from getting unbalanced.

unbalanced inventories lead us to unbalanced sense of the lack of a need to do amends or asking for amends for things that are not our responsibility.

2. Doing an honest inventory allows us to be free in our sobriety.

James 5:16 NKJV

16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Proverbs 28:13 NKJV

13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Psalm 32:1–6 NKJV

1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. the sins i Have commited war against the Holy Spirit working in me.

we have free will and as we walk in that freedom we are going to do things outside the word of God.

sin is against the Lord and his word and will.

we are often wounded spiritually by the things we have done.

we can be healed by the things we have done.

2. we talk a lot about the sins we have commited and the character defects we have.

Matthew 5:13–16 NKJV

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Titus 2:14 NKJV

14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Titus 2:7 NKJV

7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

Ephesians 2:10 NKJV

scripture tells us that we were created for good works.

we need to be AT LEAST AS familiar with the works Father called us to be.

we need to grow deeper in good works then we did in bad works.
