Obedience
Obedience
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), 3 so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
A wife submits to her husband because she submits to Christ.
A husband loves his wife because Christ loves the church
Love begets love
Outside of Jesus there is no rational reason for the love of husband and wife in this manner. The wife does not submit herself to her husband as though he is Christ, but submits herself because she is submitting to Christ.
The husband does not love his wife because of her performance but because she has been made fit for Him as the church for Christ.
This is the revelation of the body of Christ.
You are so loved by Christ that He does not differcincate between Himself and You and dearly beloved, we honor Him even more so because of it, and that is a glorious picture of proper marriage.
-----------------
Listen - these are good principles…but if you remove Christ they become good but very shaky. Christ must be supreme. If we are to flex the beauty of Heaven here, then Christ must be at the heart, the foundation and the head of it all. So again…the primary purpose of this book is the Revelation of Jesus Christ not just a life manual…but in that you have a life manual because Jesus or in Jesus is life.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord
This is not the first commandment with a promise. If this is the first commandment with a promise then it is also the only one with a promise.
Exodus 20, Dueteronom¥ 5
The tenth commandment is “thou shall not covet”...
Honor thy father and mother that it might go well with thee
If this fifth commandment is the first with a promise, then where is the second one?
Protos (promise) spoken of the foremost leaders of Israel.
This is the primary/predominate/first commandment for children and it is the only one with a promise
Did God give the law so that children would know how to listen to their parents?
Jesus submissive to His Father
Obeying His Father so that this is righteous
Had Christ not obeyed God then there would be nothing for me.
Had Christ not loved me as his own
The law was not given for people to keep, but as a revelation of God and His righteousness. The fufillment of the law was Jesus Christ. Who fufilled the 5th commandment, you? Never and not in any way. Christ fufilled it and if he didn’t then you are not righteous.
If this is about children obeying the law and living long an that is the primary or even secondary can someone please explain to me the early homegoing of my brother? The one thing that you cannot call him is a disobedient child. How many Christians interpret this about their own children and then at some childs funeral say, only the good die young?
Beloved, we are the children of God and we dwell in a land of communion with God by the grace of God. If we dwell not there then it is our own doing. But if we look unto Christ and in Him see our place then we do dwell well and long.
