The necessity of the Spirit’s work

Good day, and welcome to the Daily Grind a Ministry of Faith Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas. Today is May 8th. This message was delivered 1859 by himself Charles Spurgeon. The first reading for today is going to be out of 1st Corinthians chapter 12 verses 1 through 13, and I'll begin now concerning spiritual gifts brother. I would not have you ignorant.

You know that you were Gentiles carried away unto these dumb Idols even as you were LED. wherefore I give I give you to understand that no man speaking by the spirit of God calls Jesus accursed and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord but by the Holy Ghost now there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit and there are differences of administrations, but the same lord and there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all but the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit withal with all four to one is given by the spirit the word of wisdom to another the word of knowledge by The Same Spirit. To another Faith by The Same Spirit to another the gift of healing by The Same Spirit inverse number 10 to another to workings of Miracles to another prophecy to another Discerning of spirits to another divers kinds of tongues to another the interpretation of tongues in versus number 11, but all these work at that one and one and the same the selfsame spirit divided into every man severely as his will verse 12 for as the body is 1 and 1/2 many members and all the members of that one body. The many are one body. So also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body? Whether we be Jews or Gentiles whether we be Bond or free or have been all made to drink into one spirit. That was the first reading and the first text. And it's going to go along with the necessities of the spirits work. The sermon that was delivered on Monday morning. I mean on the morning of May 8th 1859 by Charles Spurgeon at the Music Hall in Royal series garden. Now, this is just an excerpt the whole Sermon Just in concentration for today's devotion and his excerpt is talking one day with the Countryman he use this figure in the middle of winter. I sometimes think how well I can mow and then early spring I think how I would like to reap I feel just ready for it. But when mowing time comes I find I have no strength to spare. So when you have no troubles, could it be mowed them down at once? When you have no work to do couldn't you do it?

But when working trouble come you find how difficult it is many Christians are like to stay who talk to itself and said why should I run away from the dogs? Look what a fine pair of horns. I have and look what heals I got to I might do these Hound some Mischief. Why not? Let them let me stand and show them what I can do with my antlers. I can keep off any quantity of get the dogs. No sooner did the dogs bark then then off the Stag win. So with us, what's in a rise, we say we will soon rip it up and destroy it. Let trouble come we will soon get over it but Winston and trouble come we then find what our weakness is.

Then we have to cry for the help of the spirit and through him we can do all things go without him. We can do nothing at all and all the acts of the Christians life, whether it be the act of concentrating oneself to Christ or the active daily prayer or the act of constant submission or preaching the gospel Ministries necessities of the poor are comforting desponding in all these Christian finds his weakness and his powerlessness unless he is clothed about with the spirit of God. Now that was the excerpt and Charles Spurgeon was pulling from Ezekiel chapter number 36 verse number 27 L Reed. And I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes. And you shall keep my judgments and do them?

So the Lord is mentioned that he'll put his Spirit within you and that's the Holy Spirit today. You know, if you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior, the holy spirit is within you in that Holy Spirit will cause you to walk in his statutes. He shall keep his judgments and do them.

Now it's not always as easy as it as it is being said, we always will have the Holy Spirit within us. You'll never go anywhere. But we do come and struggles and we do coming trials. And when the most daring things that we can do as a Christian is saying that we puff each other up or repair ourselves up and say, you know, I can handle that thing that's in is no big deal and I seen a lot of Christians fail with this they get bigger than their breeches. They literally said he's literally challenged. You know, what drugs drugs don't tempt me. I don't I don't care. I don't need them whatever and the next thing that behold drugs again or lies and they don't have the strength because they weren't pulling the strings from price at that time. They're pulling it within their own ego. And that's a huge stumbling block, especially in our Christian lives. I've mentioned it before but pride is one of the biggest Killers when it comes to our testimony and walk with Jesus Christ. I dwell especially with men and women to the specially men that Pride will get him in pain between us and Christ and it could really do some damage. Charles Spurgeon pulls the point that Christian is dependent on his holy spirit for Gifts & Graces.

You see that Holy Spirit that's within us also gives us those gifts & Graces. We need to depend on that Holy Spirit for that if I can draw your attention to a glaciers chapter 5 verses 22 and 23 business, but the fruit of the spirit is love joy, peace longsuffering gentleness. Goodness, Faith meekness Temperance against such there is no law. Now what these are the fruits of the spirit here and let me get let me put Sam to you one more time. If you got running down go ahead but love joy peace longsuffering gentleness goodness faith. meekness temperance

the first one's love you may have the fruit of the spirit to love to love charity to give to have charity towards each other to love. Or to have joy to bring happiness to people or peace. I mean lots of people but within yourself if you have a love of yourself, you have a joy of yourself. You have a piece of yourself. And this is all from the spirit and long-suffering now. long suffering

is having patience. Okay, you can go your patients through a time of tribulation struggle conflict in your long-suffering mean. You're still close with the Lord. You're still doing your daily walk with him and your long-suffering your you have a suffering that's a long. Of time and he continued on and you have gentleness and goodness and faith. Meekness and Temperance against such there is no law.

now those are the fruits of the spirit and there's there is

there is a plethora of them.

And that's what we need to focus on is by having and having the Holy Spirit fill us. with these fruits of the spirit Albie's Tik Tok please continue on this is a daily walk and struggle to be able to get closer and to imitate Christ. I take it to the next point. It says it also also dependent upon or on devotions. which is in a Romans 8:26 says likewise the spirit also helpeth our infirmity infirmary cheese for we know not what we should pray for as we ought but the spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings, which cannot be uttered you see Christ is is is is there any is there an intercession? We go and we can come we can talk to him. We can express to him we can complain to him we can use the one true person.

Where you can just talk?

And you can talk.

And that's our devotion to him. We talked to him through prayer. We gravel to him. We we kneel to when we pray talk with throughout the whole day to him talking to him and then we get that. Construction we get that Comfort we get that direction. By the Holy Spirit and through the word of God.

And also he puts in here Charles Spurgeon. Do you serve God in the strength, which he supplies now? I'm I'm going to go back to that slide here where it talks about Galatians chapter 5 verses 22 and 23. This is what he's supplying to you. I want to make sure we understand this. He's supplying us through the Holy Spirit love joy, peace, longsuffering gentleness. Goodness Faith meekness Temperance against such there is no loss of He's supplying us with those with those we should be able to have. Have a walk in a comfort and a time. We were not torn down or that were not a limp. There were full of spirit and full of life for him now. you know whenever I read these fruits of the spirits and fruit of the spirit, I think of And this is me being bad, but I I think of a grandmother of a grandmother because I have love joy peace longsuffering gentleness goodness Faith meekness in temper. Okay, at least on the surface.

but I wanted to bring that illustration in the sense that there's sixty seventy years of life and walking with Christ to establish that This is not something that's going to come overnight. This is a constant goal. Song to bring it into another illustration to my men out here. This is like You're on your couch. And you say you want to run a 5k? 5 km Well, these fruits of the spirit is your 5K you're on the couch right now? Okay, you got to get off the couch. First of all, which is probably the most difficult decision but to get off the couch and get any guy do calisthenics and work is stretch and warm-up and maybe after that you're tired and go back on the couch. That's being number one for that means that's your first week. So I'm saying that it's a long process that you have to be consistent every day to fulfill to be more like Christ and to have to be able to grab and and have and hold within within us these fruits that the spirit will give us.

and now through devotion devotions. Another thing that we have his grace and we have we have a devotion meaning that we have. We have the one and only thing that's amazing is that we can talk to him anytime. You know, if you ever talk to someone I was going through a struggle and they needed to go talk to a counselor or talk to someone to give them help. They have to make that phone call. Make an appointment. They got to wait until the reception is calls back or the receptions answers the phone and it's scheduled that appointment and then maybe they not may not have that appointment for you that day. You may have to go tomorrow or the day after. Who was Jesus it can happen right then and there that devotion loyalty to you and to him?

And then I'll put you the First Peter Chapter 4 verses in the number 11. It says if any man speak let him speak as the Oracles of God if any man Minister let him do it as of the ability which God give it that God and all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ to whom be praised in Dominion forever and ever amen. You know, let him speak if you can if you could speak let him speak talk to God and then if a man Minister let him do it as of the ability which God giveth. preachers preach teachers teach Christian's be a testimony. Everyone's a testimony.

Parents love your children wives love your husband's husbands. Love your wives as Christ loves the church as Christ loved the church.

Do the best you can and through Jesus Christ to whom be praised in Dominion forever and ever because all that God and all things may be glorified through through him. So reach towards him grab and hold and and have those that have those that have these devotions have his grace. grab onto the fruits of the spirit

Hold on to them. with his strength You can go through many and I need to ever literally anyting. I mean, I was just going to say it to you right here. Again that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ who be praised and Dominion forever who has the minion forever God's in control Jesus in control of everything forever and ever it says amen. So as long as you're keep focus with in Christ, and we don't let that Pride again sneak up on us and says you're better than this or you're better than that. You're the strongest guy or female here, whatever it maybe we don't let that sneak up in there. Or we could stay true to our Lord and Savior by literally we we we make a commitment to talk to him and to listen to him and to reach release for the spirits. I mean for the fruits of the spirit then you know, we can conquer all that's through him. but if you don't you're going to struggle on uselessly in your own strength. And we've talked about this before may need to listen to Future Past podcast, but we cannot do anything on strength. You know, it's kind of like I'm using a lie illustrations are running but it's kind of like running 3 miles on no sleep after being up for 24 hours our strength. We just can't get there. We can't and like I said stop pride comes up and we're stronger than what we are going to fall flat on your face. So I encourage you to pull your strength from the Lord. How do you say devotions with them? Walk with him talk with him. And be able to have to have the moment of growing with him in obtaining the fruits of the spirit. And you know, I just I just think you'll be such a blessing. So I hope you enjoyed today.
