The Good Shepherd
Introduction
John 10:1-6 – Thief or Shepherd – Jesus says there are 2 types of leaders.
John 10:7-10 – I am the DOOR – For anyone to go into the sheepfold, he has to go through the Door
John 10:11-18 – I am the GOOD SHEPHERD – Now Jesus reveals what a Good Shepherd is…
1. Gives Life for the Sheep (Sacrifice) v.11 – The GS is willing to sacrifice his life for the Sheep.
Not a Hireling v.12-13 – The GS is not hired or makes money off his job.
2. Knows His Sheep and is Known by them (Selfless) v.14 – The GS has a relationship of vulnerability.
Has other Sheep v.16 – The GS has other sheep and will bring them into one group.
3. Loved of God (Loving) v.17 – The GS is loved by God and loves
4. Has Power over Life (Loyalty) v.18 – The GS gives his life for the sheep and receives it back.
These 4 Virtues are the foundation of relationships. If you are going to have good relationships with those who you go to school with, church, neighbors, you must be a person that is willing to sacrifice, be selfless, loving, and loyal.
Note that people will not understand you as a Christian and even reject you. God will always be with you.
