Lois and Eunice

Introduced in Acts 16
“Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek. The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.”
Acts 16:1–3 NIV

Jewish mother devout and a believer in Jesus. Father Greek. That is all we know. But his only other mention is verse 3 and seems pretty safe to say that he was not a believer. Or at least not active in Timothy’s spiritual walk.
But Eunice his mother is.
2 Timothy 1:5 NIV
I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

Sincere Faith

Sincere Faith- real, devouted, highs and lows
Passed Down
Lived Out
Imparted
Passed down - by example and by teaching
Lived out- lives are more than a reflection of God they radiate the relationship from within
Imparted on Timothy-
“Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Deuteronomy 6:7 NIV
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Imprinted on his heart

Built the foundation
2 Timothy 3:14–15 NIV
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

SINCERE FAITH

Hold onto what you have learnedYou have become convinced of it BECAUSE you know those from whom you learned it. ACTION and LIFESTYLE From infancy you known the Holy Scriptures
I want to show you something cool.
Each time Paul talks about Eunice or Lois’ Faith imparted on Timothy, the next verse is one of the biggies:
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:6–7 NIV
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:14–17 NIV
