Alêtheia Christian Fellowship ~ Mother’s Day ~ May 14, 2006
Today is our day of atonement for an entire year of neglect, indifference, misuse, disrespect, and a lack of thoughtfulness and genuine appreciation.

Child discipline and Christians – Role differences in the Bible
For these non-moral issues we need the expert advice of the social experts and psychologists. But this creates a false dualism--the notion that there is a sacred and a secular side to the family, marriage and parenting.
You can’t legislate morality! How dumb. It’s only a question of whose
morality you’re advocating.
Everyone has an opinion, well, here’s God’s opinion.

The Foundation of Good Motherhood
1) Seek God First
2) Seek Relationship with your Husband Second only to God
3) Seek Relationship with your Children
Proverbs 31:30&31 ~ Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise. 1) Seek God First
Proverbs 31:10-12 & 23 ~ Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She will not hinder him but help him all her life. Her husband is well known, for he sits in the council meeting with the other civic leaders. 2) Seek Relationship with your Husband Second only to God
" Proverbs 31:17-28 ~ She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions. She carefully watches all that goes on in her household and does not have to bear the consequences of laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her 3) Seek Relationship with your Children
Alêtheia Christian Fellowship Slide:
1. She is a devoted wife (vss. 11, 12, 23). She is one who has the confidence of her husband, who seeks his welfare, and enhances his reputation.
2. She is a diligent partner (vss. 13-17, 18b, 19, 22, 24). As a woman with God's viewpoint, she is a willing worker, a wise shopper and planner who is able to minister to her family because she keeps herself fit spiritually and physically (cf. vs. 18a, 25).
3. She is a dutiful servant to the needy and the poor (vs. 20). She has a vision for ministry not only to her family but to her society.
4. She is a dependable mother (vss. 15, 21, 27). She is devoted to the needs of her family. She is well groomed, attractive, organized, and disciplined and as such, is a testimony to her children.
5. She is a doctrinally oriented woman (vs. 26, 18). She is a woman full of God's wisdom.
In these verses we have God’s opinion on what a woman should be and you may feel like it’s an impossible goal.
Not SUPERWOMAN, but SUPERNATURAL WOMAN
It’s not merely something to aspire to… it is possible to a large degree if you will do one very simple thing.

Matthew 14:21-24 ~ About five thousand men had eaten from those five loaves, in addition to all the women and children! Immediately after this, Jesus made his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake while he sent the people home. Afterward he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.
Mark 6:30&31 ~ The apostles gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught. And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)
Luke 10:38-42 ~ As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it—and I won’t take it away from her.”
John 12:2&3 ~ A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus sat at the table with him. Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with fragrance.

Importance of Mothers:
David Talmage, was an eighteen-year-old boy…
T. DeWitt Talmage, born in 1832, and for 25 years, a Presbyterian minister who filled the 4,000 to 5,000 seat auditorium of his Brooklyn church, as well as auditoriums across America and the Britain. His ministry counted converts to Christ in the thousands annually. The great preacher Charles Spurgeon stated of Talmage’s ministry: “His sermons take hold of my inmost soul.” and “I am astonished when God blesses me but not surprised when He blesses him.”

1 Peter 3:1-6 ~ In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands, even those who refuse to accept the Good News. Your godly lives will speak to them better than any words. They will be won over by watching your pure, godly behavior. Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. That is the way the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands. For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, when she called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.
1 Peter 3:7 ~ In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat her with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. If you don’t treat her as you should, your prayers will not be heard.
Ephesians 6:2&3 ~ “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first of the Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: If you honor your father and mother, “you will live a long life, full of blessing.”
NORA
Acts 2:42 ~ They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
1 Corinthians 11:23b-25 ~ The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” in the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
1 Corinthians 10:16&17 ~ Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.
1 Corinthians 11:26-29 ~ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.
