Intro: As we look at the salutation and the prayer of this letter I would like to spend some time preaching on Paul’s confidence in the Good work God has begun in the church of Philippi and how this is true for you who call on the name of the Lord.
Philippians 1:3–6 NLT
3 Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. 4 Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, 5 for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. 6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

The reason Paul is confident in God!

Paul’s confidence in God is based on his faith in God.
Paul’s faith in God is based on the evidence of God’s faithfulness.
God’s faithfulness is expressed in God’s word and resurrection power of Jesus.
Paul is confident in God because God will complete what he starts.
God began in Genesis making his creation to have a relationship with him.
Genesis 1:31, “Then God looked over all of he had made, and he saw that it was very good!” (NLT).
Paul’s confidence in God is because of the power of the resurrection of Christ.
What God has put into motion he will see it to completion.
The total work of our salvation will come to completion.
God will never fail for leave us wanting.
David’s Psalm says it well:
Psalm 37:25 NLT
25 Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.

God does not fail because he is Good

God is Good.

Mark 10:18 NLT
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.
God is good and all he does is good.

The good work of God in his creation when he said very good.

Sine we are good we are to do good.
WE are to be like our Good Father.

God calls us to do what is good.

Micah 6:8 NLT
8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
We know Good because God has told us what is good.
He has shown us in Jesus what is good.
He teaches us through the Holy Spirit what is good.

Our Response is to do what is good.

The good we are called to do through Jesus Christ is because the new life we have in Christ.

WE get help by the Spirit to live a good life.

Jesus saved us from Sin so that we can live a life that brings him glory.
The transformation work that has begun in us will be completed.

Good Work God has Begun

We are works in progress.
WE are not finished yet so thank God for his grace!
Thank God for his mercy.
We fall down but we can confess and repent and see the Lord.
Let us not become more holier than thou attitude and be gracious to others as God has been to us.
Let us not judge others but pray for their strength in the Lord.

Paul is confident in the Gospel

The Good work is the result of receiving the Gospel message from Paul.
This means .t we are to continue to grow in the gospel and live for the Lord.
This is not a destination thing to buy a T-Shirt to say you have been there.
This Christian Journey is life long commitment until the Lord says well done!

The Gospel shows us our sin and our need of redemption.

God’s work seen to completion

Paul is also confident because God is the First and the Last.
Isaiah 48:12 NLT
12 “Listen to me, O family of Jacob, Israel my chosen one! I alone am God, the First and the Last.
2. God always has the ending in mind nothing it out of place with God.
3. Jesus says he is the Author and Finisher of our Faith to show us again the Son is like the Father and the completion of our Salvation is safely in God’s hand.

Let the Lord lead you to the end.

It is not over until God says so, so keep the faith in doing the good work God has called you to do everyday of your life/
