I know that over the years you have heard me say about several passages this is my favorite passage. The truth is that the bible in entirety is my favorite book of all time because it is not just a book it is a life story. It is the story of my Father’s love for me and to what length he would go to so that I would know and feel His love. So this morning’s passage reminds me of that extraordinary love.
When I think of all the things that are going on in our world, I wonder in how many places in the world do we see today’s passage being lived out. Lived out because no matter what else is happening in the world people are coming together. Even though there have been many lives lost there has also been a coming together of the community. In a conversation that I had this week a person remarked of how refreshing the air quality has been. In places like Los Angeles which is known for its bad air quality, it is reported that there is no smog in sight. So again, this has been a difficult time but it has also brought some good along the way. For a moment in time people have been forced to slow down and really smell the roses. Take time to reflect and connect.
That brings me to this morning passage.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
