Transcript
Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,
and he who guards his master will be honored.
H: tending and guarding
E: faithful consistent devotion brings good reward
A: I need to be diligent in caring for the things around me and faithful in supporting those above me
R: help me to be diligent and faithful
Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always,
but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
H: faithful fear brings blessing
E: those who keep a soft, receptive heart to the ways of God will know His truth
A: staying soft and receptive to God requires a consistent attitude of humility, continued learning, and always respecting God.
R: help me to be a humble, learning servant of God.
A fool gives full vent to his spirit,
but a wise man quietly holds it back.
H: venting v holding back
E: not everything needs to be said. The wise man learns when to speak and when to hold back. Not everything needs to be addressed or corrected.
A: I need to learn how to hold back in responding to things that bother me. Knowing how to properly address issues and not just vent my thoughts or frustrations.
R: Lord, help me to know when to speak abs when to be silent.
Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.
H: truth, protection, & enough
E: God gives us what we need. God will do what He says. We do not need to try to add to anything He promises.
A: God’s Word is enough
R: help me to trust while in Your Word.
Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
H: perceived wisdom
E: humility is needed in every area of life, especially in perceived wisdom
A: don’t think I know more than I do.
R: help me to remain humble and teachable
