HOOK

Previously at The Message— we covered the story of the miraculous feeding of the 5,000
From it we learned timeless principles that we can apply in our lives today:
ONCE YOU SAW SOME SIGNS OF JESUS— FOLLOW HIM
RETREAT TO THE MOUNTAINS OCCASIONALLY
REMEMBER THE PASSOVER FESTIVAL
WHATEVER I GIVE TO JESUS HE WILL MULTIPLY
I AM NOT GONNA WASTE ANYTHING
After THIS event, another spectacular miracle was performed by Jesus— the ever famous story when He walked on the water
Let’s ask the Lord this morning to reveal to us His message behind this story— you can also find this story in the synoptic gospels of Matthew and Mark— they wrote their versions of this event on Matthew 14:22-33 and Mark 6:47-51
Let’s dig in to His Word— type amen after turning your Bible to John 6:16-24

BOOK

John 6:16–24 NIV
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading. 22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. 23 Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.

LOOK

SHOW A TYPICAL GALILEAN FISHING BOAT
Capernaum was on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee
A STRONG WIND WAS BLOWING AND THE WATERS GREW ROUGH
Despite their rowing efforts they only covered 3-4 miles
In life we experience situations when things are rough—
IT IS I, DON’T BE AFRAID
This is one of the “I am” statements of Jesus
People are typically frightened— specially those who do not know him well— they are afraid that the truth about themselves will be revealed when the let Jesus come into their lives— conviction of the Holy Spirit
But we must not fear Jesus, rather have faith on Him
What was not recorded here in John that is recorded in Matthew is when Peter ask to come to the Lord [MATTHEW 14:27-31]
When Peter focus not on Jesus but on the rough winds and troubled waters— that was when he started to sink
THEN THEY WERE WILLING TO TAKE HIM
It was only after their willingness to take Jesus in that immediately— they reached their destination
When we let Jesus in our lives— that is when we calmly reach out destinations
