This is a phrase that can be applied to not only physical food but also to spirtual food.
We love to have a good old lunch a good cup of tea and a chat hey?
As newfoundlanders we love that particularly. I know as a pastor that is something I get all the time whenever I visit someone we end up having a cup of tea and a snack together. We love chatting about recipes and new restaurants we have tried out.
Today we might not be able to get out and enjoy time together with friends and family or out to a new restaurant not only because of our restrictions but because we gotta watch what we eat because of health reasons or to take off weight or chronic pain or whatever. It’s always something isn’t it?
In trying to take better care of ourselves we have to watch what we consume. Don’t we?
We are not only complicated physical beings we are as well complex spiritual ones. Just as it is important to watch what we each to remain healthy and in good physical standing our spiritual lives need care too.
Psalm 107:9 NLT
For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
We need to take care of our spirutal walk and that is important at any stage or no matter what is happening around us.
He is our strength, He is our peace. He is our refuge and strength.
As Christians just as we would watch what we consume to combat high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes etc we need to realize that we need to make sure we take care of our lives as Christians and follow a simple diet.
We are what we eat and that is also true in the spiritual realm. What you put in is what comes out. Garbage in garbage out!
It is very possible to get comfortable in our walk with God to think we don’t need to make effort in areas. But I encourage you ro keep feeding yourselves with His word, Spend time learning scriptures, singing songs, praying. God speaks to us through these things and we grow and stay strong when these are things we are putting into action.
How can we fight the good fight and stand strong when our spiritual vital signs are really really low? How can we make an impact for God when we don’t spend time with Him?
We need to follow the example of Jesus in these areas and understand the directions given by Him to remain spirutally strong and full of vitality.
How can God’s grace work powerfully in you and I when we cut ourselves off from the very food that He has prepared for our souls?
Private prayer
Bible reading
Scripture memorization
Meditating on God
Sharing about Him and what He has done
These are all things that keep us strong.
God has promised
Psalm 107:9 NLT
For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
How can we experience this if we never sit at His table and eat?
We would never do that to our physical bodies. Our natural bodies would not be long telling us we are hungry and need food. Nothing better than the satisfaction and delight in a good meal but what happens to the person that has no interest in steak and potatoes? They are hungry.
There are many Christians who are feeling unsatisfied and unfulfilled. Our spiritual person can only be nourished when we take part in God’s word and receive the refreshment that comes from His Holy Spirit.
Psalm 63:5 NLT
You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.
So just as we would rave about a good meal or a gourmet dish and pay tribute to the great cook who made it we should as God’s people be continually singing the praises of the one who feed us daily with the richest and best nourishment for our spiritual body.
Are we like that? Are we people who are joyful, singing, happy, encouraging? Do we show others that love that comes from the one we love and serve?
If not we need to ask Him to help us do better.
Psalm 34:8 NLT
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Take in good things spirtually
1 Peter 2:2 NLT
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,
We need to continually drink of the milk of the word of God but don’t remain on the milk move forward and grow deeper and get on more solid food in your spiritual life. Don’t stay in one place keep growing, keep learning, keep walking strongly and closely with God.
There comes a time when we need to wean off the “spiritual milk” and move on to something of more substance. That shows that we are growing spiritually.
We need to see that evidence always in our lives.
2. Growth needs to happen.
1 Corinthians 3:2 NLT
I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready,
The corinthian church needed to learn that there is more to their walk with God but they were not willing to move forward in their walk onto solid food.
But in order to grow spiritually this has to happen.
Hebrews 13:9 NLT
So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.
We get strengthened by grace
God’s grace comes in difference forms and in different ways but the truth is the same. If we neglect the Bible, prayer, worship and fellowship with other believers problems occur.
That’s why it is easy to skip these things the enemy wants us to because he doesn’t want us growing close to God. We need to protect our walk with God and ensure we pursue Him always.
We have been called to fellowship with Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:9 NLT
God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
We need to reach out to him and take action and not shrivel up and strave. He has given us what we need and the table is set and we must take time to receive it or it all counts for nothing.
Psalm 34:8 NLT
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Psalm 22:26 NLT
The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the Lord will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.
sing Nothing but the blood
Leaning on the everlasting arms
Blessed assurance
