Protective Mother

There was an edict from the most powerful man in the world. (Pharaoh). This edict was to kill all Israelite boys as they were born. They families were commanded to throw any boy born into the Nile river.
Jochebed was Moses’s mother. The word of God said that Moses was a beautiful boy. His mother was suppose to take Moses and throw him in the Nile river. She chose not to obey the edict. This would put her life at risk. This is something that she was willing to do to protect her baby boy.
It didn’t matter the size of the enemy, Jochebed was willing to risk it for the sake of the life of her baby boy. A good mother will go to great lengths to protect her child.

Application

There are many threats to our children today. One of the greatest threats that I see today is not one of physical nature but spiritual. I see today’s kids being raised on worldly principals. They are consumed with worldly things. A lot of kids spend more time on Ipads and phones, than they do learning God’s word.
A good mother will see to that their children are learning the word of God. They are diligent themselves to know it and are able, willing and teach it to their kids. There are a lot of enemies that our kids are going to face. The best thing that we can do for them is to teach them God’s Word.
Along with spiritual foes there will also be physical foes. These will come in the way of sickness, injury, bullies, inequities and many more physical foes. A good mother will help navigate the child through these difficulties in life to the fullest extent that she can. When she comes to her limitation she then turns it over to God in prayer for His protection over her child
The mother bear syndrome is a real thing. If a mother ever feels like their child is threatened in any way, she will do anything to stop it, even if it means risking her own life.

Providing Mother

Jochebed could only protect Moses for a short period of time. When that time came, she constructed a basket that would give Moses they greatest chance for survival. She placed him in a position that he would go in a direction that would enable him to have the best chance.
Jochebed was doing everything she could to keep Moses above water.

Application

Mom’s are wonderful providers for their kids. If you think about it, everything they need is provided for them by their mom. Their mom makes sure they are well fed, clean diapers, have clean clothes, and any other need. Moms typically spend more time with the kids.
Basically mom’s establish the environment that kids grow up in. She controls what her kids are exposed to. For example, she gets to decide who’s house their kids can go to, what friends they can hang out with, what they watch on TV, and what they listen to. A child cannot provide these things for themselves. Moms establish the environment.
The best environment is one that the Bible describes in Philippians:
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Phil. 4:8
If a mother provides an environment that meets these criteria, this child will be well provided for. This type of environment establishes good character. This is what a child needs!
A good mom also knows who to let have influence in a kids life. In the early years of life this is easy. When they become teenagers this becomes much more challenging. It is very important because:
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Cor. 15:33
I want to share with you a timeline for Mom that I found:
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything! 8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot! 12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn’t really know quite everything. 14 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mom…duh! 16 YEARS OF AGE ~ My mom? She’s like, so “not cool”. 18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She’s way out of touch! 25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it. 35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let’s get Mom’s opinion. 45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom thinks about it? 65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.
As you can see, what a mom provides is of utmost importance.

Mom Let’s Go

There came a time after Jochebed did all she could do in raising Moses. Then she had to let him go and trust that she did all she could do and let God handle the rest of his life. Moses would be chosen to lead Israel out of Egyptian bondage.
Moses mom did all she could do with the time she had with him and then let him go.

Application

This is perhaps the toughest part of being a mom. After all this child has been with you for the longest. You carried this child for nine months, you gave birth, you raised him through childhood, you endured the teenage years, and now you have to let them go to flourish in how you brought them up.
A child does not stay a child forever. There comes a point when that child becomes an adult. This is when mom has to let go. Sometimes it is the very act of letting go that makes a child an adult.
Moms Protect, Moms Provide, and Moms let go and trust God
