Hello my dear friends! This is part two of the Church in Pandemic, Check out my social media pages for Part one. But a quick recap,
Last time we discussed the Acts 2 church model, how we are called to have relationship with one another as a church even though we cannot meet together.
So, this time I want to dive right in to Philippians 2:1-4, hear this word.
The New Revised Standard Version Imitating Christ’s Humility
If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, 2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.
You know, this week I really caught myself asking the question “why are we still in quarantine? This is dumb, we should open everything up and get the country moving again”.
Looking at those questions, which I know a lot of people are asking right now, from the lens of Philippians 2, I start to wonder if I am considering more than just myself right now.
Philippians 2:4 calls us to no look after our own interests, but to the interest of others.
How are we as a church, looking after others? I know there is so much itching in us to get back together, and trust me I’m right there with you. I cannot wait for the day where we get to worship together again as one body of Christ.
But in this season, we need to look after each other. We need to care for the most vulnerable among us.
I know this not news to any of you, it’s a message that is being repeated over and over in press conferences, in meetings, and it’s pretty much the same sermon being taught all over the globe right now.
But this is where we are as a church. We are called to imitate Christ’s humility, give up our own selfish conceit, and care for one another.
Care for the most vulnerable, care for those struggling with the isolation of quarantine (extroverts, yall are deep in my prayers right now), care for those who are struggling financially (those who have lost their jobs).
When we do these things, and put others before ourselves, the peace of Christ reigns. It reigns over disease, it reigns over death, it reigns over Covid-19.
My prayer is that we intentionally find ways to care more deeply
Stay tuned.....
