A Godly Responsibility

Adam calls his wife’s name Eve, for she is the mother of all living beings. (Genesis 3:20)

When it comes to Adam and Eve, we don’t seem to give them much credit for anything except to blame them for our misfortune as a human race!

I guess it’s part of the sin nature itself, that can so easily look at nothing but the bad in people and never give them credit for the good they do. Kind of like politics!

But even though our Eden parents messed up as far as disobedience is concerned (Who of us doesn’t), they were what we would consider today, godly parents.

Our text takes us to...

Genesis 4:25–26 NKJV

25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.

“For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.”

She considered Seth a blessing from God, in that God would provide a son that would provide redemption.

And so, Eve saw her responsibility to raise godly children.

I. The promised seed would come from her.

Genesis 3:15 NKJV

15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Adam and Eve were cursed with the penalty of their disobedience.

Their nature changed in such a way, that they needed an intercessor, and God was going to give them one - the promised seed of the woman who would remedy their plight.

We know this to be the Lord Jesus Christ!

1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV

5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

As much as we need Him today - Eve knew they needed Him then!

And He comes through a chosen line.

Not Cain

She thought Abel

God provided Seth

And so Eve, understood her role in God’s big picture.

She would be the mother of all living.

But she would also be the mother of the entire godly lineage leading up to Messiah.

II. She knew that He would be the hope of the human race.

They were acutely aware that their sin was the world’s sin.

They saw the full effect of it in the murder of their own son Able by his brother Cain.

She gave herself fully to the task of raising godly children.

You see, Eve’s seed would crush Satan’s head dealing the death blow, and foiling Satan’s plan to stop the redemption of mankind.

All through the Bible, we see the Devil scheming and plotting to kill the godly line leading to Christ, and doing everything he could to stop Jesus from accomplishing His work of redemption.

But the cross of Calvary crushed Satan’s head!

He has lost the battle, because Jesus is victorious!

Now mothers today don't raise children thinking that one of them would be the Messiah!

But Mom, shouldn’t you raise godly children that would recognize Jesus Christ, trusting Him, and receiving the atonement that Adam and Eve were waiting for?

III. Family was the institution established for raising them.

God established three institutions:

Family

Government

Church

To the family, He gave the responsibility of raising children which incorporates moral, ethical, and spiritual Guidance.

To the government, He gave the responsibility of ruling, judging, and maintaining civil obedience.

To the church, He gave the responsibility of discipling, worshipping, and fellowship.

Neither of these has any right to interfere in the responsibilities of the other!

Now, I think we all know that the American family as a whole has abdicated its parental responsibilities and allowed the state to teach its pseudo morals and ethics to our children, as well as abdicated its spiritual responsibility, and left that to the children's and teen ministries of the church!

But this is exactly why God ordered the first institution to be the family.

This is where the foundation is set.

Our fundamental problem is that there has been a breakdown in the family.

We need fathers and mothers raising children. Teaching, guiding, and forming the shape of the heart and soul.

We need traditional family structures, with one father and one mother, one of each gender!

Which by the way, there are only two genders male and female, not fifty as some nutjobs would have us believe and are teaching in sex education.

We need both parents pouring themselves into their children and leading a spiritual life by example.

We need mothers who are willing to give up their own personal desires for their children. Or, better yet, mothers who will make their personal desire and their career, raising godly children.

If I'm sounding like an antiquated 18th century prude, maybe it's because of what I see has taken place.

We need some moms to stand in the gap!

We need some moms and dads taking the responsibility of raising their children and being accountable before God.

I believe we are in the last days!

What we are witnessing currently, is a demonic shift toward globalism and the rise of the antichrist!

Our children, and grand kids need to know that they can trust God's word and that they can trust Jesus!

Mom’s out there! We need you more than ever!

It is not too late to start.

You have a bond with your children that no-one else does.

Use it for the glory of God!
