Introduction
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s that might be watching this.
Your love and sacrifice for your children is one of the most glorious acts of godliness the world will ever know.
As Mothers you bear a pressure and a stress that others cannot comprehend
you experience a joy that only other mothers can relate too
God knit together your children in your body, and you took care of them, protected them, loved them and prepared your world for their arrival.
You labored and brought forth, from your own body, the life of your children.
You have, or you are, raising you kids
countless diapers
sleepless nights
special kisses that fix all the aches and pains
you offer comforting words
you feed, you cloth, you clean, you discipline, you teach… and all the while you demonstrate the faithfulness and love of God to your children.
Though the world may not be willing to admit it, but the glorious power of a loving and strong mother gives life to the world.
If the world viewed women and mothers with the same dignity and honor that the Bible Motherhood would be celebrated as the crown jewel of all possible vocations.
Psalm 127 emphasizes the amazing blessing it is to be a mother when it says,
Ps 127:3 - ...children are a gift from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
This should give us right perspective of what it is to be mother…
The lies of our culture tell us that Motherhood is a
Second class vocation
settling for something less
mundane
Nothing could be further from the truth Motherhood is
Chief blessing for women all throughout the scriptures
God’s way of advancing his purposes on earth
Motherhood is the means that God uses to save the world.
Motherhood is the means that God uses to save the world.
After the fall, it is through motherhood that God promised to bring the redeemer, the savior, the snake crusher
Gen 3:15 - I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall crush your head, and you shall crush his heel.”
Throughout the scriptures mothers carried in their bodies the promise of God redeeming and restoring humanity and the whole world.
From Eve, to Sarah, to Rebecca, Rachel, Tamar, Bathsheba, Ruth, Rahab, and Mary - each of these women carried, in their bodies, the promise of Gods redemption from one generation to the next.
The only hope for all humanity was not
written in a text book
it was not spoken out of a fiery bush or cloud
nor created by the hands of skilled men.
The Only hope for all humanity was born of a women.
Jesus, the servant King, the lion and the lamb, the savior of the world was brought into this world through the birth-pains of a mother.
He was fed, changed, loved, trained, and nourished by a mother.
There is truly no greater calling in this world than to be a mother of an image bearer of the most High God!
There is truly no greater calling in this world than to be a mother of an image bearer of the most High God!
Never believe the lies of our culture that motherhood is a lesser vocation or calling. For it is indeed the greatest blessing in all the world. And there is no greater privilege than to give birth and raise children for the glory of God.
God’s plan for redeeming the world came through the labor of a mother. And now, God’s plane to renew and restore the world likewise comes through the labor of many mothers.
God is still using motherhood as the main vehicle to see the the world transformed into the glorious city we see at the end of Revelation.
Through the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Christ the Church was born.
And now God is using each of you moms to bear in your bodies the promises that, through his church, God will make all things new.
As Mary bore the physical body of Christ in her womb, so all mothers who are in Christ, bear the spiritual body of Christ, which is the church, in your womb.
Your children are and will be the hands and feet of God.
They are the future snake crushers that Paul mentions Romans 16
Your children are and will be the beautiful feet that bring the Gospel to the nations.
There is indeed no greater calling nor blessing in all the world than to be a godly mother, the means in which God uses to redeem, renew and restore all things to Christ.
So Happy Mother’s Day, and may all of you take hold of the glorious calling that is motherhood.
