We Can Be A Handful
We Can Be A Handful
Illustration: One of the mothers in our church put her son to bed on the eve of his fifth birthday. She was trying to communicate that birthday idea to him. "Kevin," she said, "this is the last night of your fourth night. Do you understand that?" Kevin was ready to communicate with his hands. For a full year, he had shown people four fingers for his four years, and now he was ready to add a thumb. Seeing his four fingers, his mother nodded, and said: "When you go to sleep tonight, you'll still be 4-years-old. But do you know how old you'll be in the morning, when you wake up?" Kevin nodded enthusiastically, added his thumb to his four little fingers and said, "Tomorrow, I'll be a handful!"
What Does a Godly Mom Want For You
What Does a Godly Mom Want For You
What do Mother’s want FOR their children? This is an emotion-drenched question. Mothers, by and large, want the best for their children. They want them to have choices and they want them make good choices.
“I want her to love the Lord and walk in His will. If she is out of His will, I want her to be miserable. I want for her to know that she is special because of the sacrifice that Christ made FOR HER. I want her to seek Him first in every decision.” Another one wrote, “I would not shelter him from suffering. In the few extreme instances that I have known true suffering I have never been closer to God, never more protected, and never more loved by Him.
she wrote, “I don’t pray for riches or fancy houses for my child. I know if one is walking with God-He will provide everything.”
Godly Moms Want Their Children to be Close to God
Godly Moms Want Their Children to be Close to God
What is so important that mothers are willing for their children to be miserable, if necessary, or suffer if needed, or do without things if need be? They want their children to be close to God and love His church. How’s your relationship with God? Your mother cares about that-that is the number one thing she wants for you-yes she wants you to be healthy and happy, but more than that, she wants you to walk with the Lord.
But what does she want FROM you? I read three things over and over, usually the same words-time, love and respect. That’s all she wants. She wants some of your time. She wants your love. And she wants your respect.
Before Elisha began his role as prophet, he went home to kiss his mother goodbye. (1 Kings 19:20)
Elisha left the oxen, ran to follow Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you.” “Go on back,” he replied, “for what have I done to you?”
Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
Godly Moms Want Their Children to Know God’s Love
Godly Moms Want Their Children to Know God’s Love
I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also.
I write these things to you, hoping to come to you soon. But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
What Does a Godly Mom Want From You
What Does a Godly Mom Want From You
On a day like today, the real meaning of Mother’s Day can be lost in sentimentality. What do your mothers want FOR you? Among other things, they want you to walk with the Lord. What do they want FROM you? Your time, love and respect-that’s all.
Perhaps the best Mother’s Day gift you could give is to let her know, that because of her example, it is easy for you to follow God-then give her some of your time and show her how much you love and respect her.
Respect, Affection, Learned, Wise, Gratitude, Godly
Respect, Affection, Learned, Wise, Gratitude, Godly
twelve social science researches who formed the Mother’s Council and Motherhood Project surveyed over 2000 mothers who had children under the age of 18 and discovered that they derive satisfaction from being a mother but most of them don’t feel appreciated for what they do.
They found that mothers downplayed the “stress and strain” of motherhood, and 97% of the women surveyed said they were “’very’ or ‘somewhat’ satisfied” with issues related to be a mother. Ninety-three percent said, “The love they feel for their children is unlike any love they’ve ever experienced.” and 81% consider motherhood as “the most important thing they do.”
Even with this personal satisfaction, only 48% said they feel appreciated “most or all of the time.”
Show Respect
Show Respect
“Each of you is to respect his mother and father. You are to keep my Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God.
Give Affection
Give Affection
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her: “Many women have done noble deeds, but you surpass them all!”
Demonstrate that you Learned Your Listen
Demonstrate that you Learned Your Listen
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t reject your mother’s teaching,
Your mother also wants to know that you LEARNED the things she tried to teach you. From basic things like “Wash behind your ears” and “eat your vegetables” to more important things like “Always tell the truth,” and “Say your prayers,” our mothers want to know that we’ve learned the lessons they’ve taught us.
Be Wise
Be Wise
Solomon’s proverbs: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son, heartache to his mother.
“It’s so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite.”
Show Gratitude
Show Gratitude
Some people curse their father and do not thank their mother.
A national survey taken for a flower delivery company suggests that 50 percent of Americans believe their mother deserves something special on Mother’s Day. The survey also found that 65 percent of Americans said if they ever won an Academy award, their mother would be the first person they’d thank in their acceptance speech. (www.prnews.com, May 1, 2002) Since most of us won’t win an Academy award, perhaps we should not wait for an occasion like that to thank our Moms and find other ways to show our gratitude.
Be Godly
Be Godly
The father of godly children has cause for joy. What a pleasure to have children who are wise. So give your father and mother joy! May she who gave you birth be happy.
Nothing will make a Godly mother happier than knowing that her Children are following in Jesus’ footsteps.
