God Is In The Battle For You
God Is In The Battle For You
Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
Amalek was Esau’s Grandson - This wasn’t a new war…its an old war!
Its been fought before
Victory has already taken place!
Jacob and Esau faced off and Grace and mercy won!
The Amalekites were camel riders
They were effective with surprise attacks!
It is believed that the Amalekites went out of their way to attack israel
Its personal!
God is The God of the Battle!
The Lord is a Man of War; the Lord is His name.
There is no one like our God! No one as powerful and mighty in battle as our Lord!
It doesn’t matter what you are up against God is able to stop it!
The Lord will go forth like a mighty man, He will rouse up His zealous indignation and vengeance like a warrior; He will cry, yes, He will shout aloud, He will do mightily against His enemies.
There are many scary things in this life but nothing compares to Our God in Battle!
for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
God sends Us in battle but He comes with us!
God will never send you to battle and walk away!
The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,
There are battles that you and I cannot fight. God will go ahead of us and fight the battles we can’t
God Given Battle principles
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people. And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
The enemy will look big and greater than you
Don’t be afraid. God is with you
Do not let your heart faint, be afraid and do not tremble or be terrified because of them.
God is going with us and will save us!
The Battle Plan
And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”
First time Joshua comes into the picture - Moses calls upon Joshua to choose some men to go and fight
Go to battle in good company
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
Go to battle with a plan
Go to battle in the strength of the Lord
Nehemiah 8:10 says
“ do not grieve, for the Joy of the Lord is your strength”
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
The Battle
So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Joshua obeyed Moses and went to war
You win wars with obedience
Moses and Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill to oversee
You win battles with oversight
And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
Moses lifted up the rod in his hands Israel prevailed
As we lift Jesus Up above ourselves victory is certain
Without Lifting Jesus up we certainly will loose the war
But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Its hard to lift up its easier to lay down
The placed a stone under moses
Our lifting up God above ourselves must come from a firm foundation or we will falter
Lifting up God above ourselves was a group effort not a single mans’ effort
The lifting up of God above ourselves had to continue to the end of the day…
He who perseveres to the end will win...
So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
So the victory came the enemy was defeated!
Victory is guaranteed but it takes hard work and effort
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”
God wanted Moses to keep record of this event and to make sure Joshua heard the telling of the story ( Moses did become God’s record keeper writing the first 5 books of the Bible)
Joshua fought on the ground Amalek so God wanted Joshua to understand something. God was going to fight “Amalek” in every generation
The enemy will be completely and wholly defeated.
And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner;
Moses then builds God and altar to worship Him
The-Lord-Is-My-Banner - Jehovah Nissi
this name means that God is our sign pole, mast, marker…
The name under which we fight.
As Moses hands were lifted up it was a symbol of His hands lifted up to (touching) the throne of the Lord
for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
In every generation God is ready to battle the “Amalek”
