Covid 19 is not a new thing to humanity.
Panemics are part of our history.
a decade ago N1H1 and Swine flu killed more people than covid 19.I
In 1918 Spanish Flue killed over 50 millikon people.
In the middle ages also killed over 50 million people, with death coming just 10 days after infection.
Various outbreaks of pandemic diseases, such as the coronavirus, have prompted many to ask why God allows—or even causes—pandemic diseases.
And whether such illnesses are a sign of the end times.
Let us go through the Word as we seek to find answers and solution to our concerns an questions.

The OT

The Bible, particularly the Old Testament, describes numerous occasions when God brought plagues and diseases on His people and on His enemies “to make you see my power”.
Exodus 9:14 ESV
14 For this time I will send all my plagues on you yourself, and on your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth.
He used plagues on Egypt to force Pharaoh to free the Israelites from bondage, while sparing His people from being affected by them, thus indicating His sovereign control over diseases and other afflictions.
Exodus 12:13 ESV
13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
God also warned His people of the consequences of disobedience, including plagues.
Leviticus 26:21 ESV
21 “Then if you walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will continue striking you, sevenfold for your sins.
Leviticus 26:25 ESV
25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute vengeance for the covenant. And if you gather within your cities, I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
On two occasions, God destroyed 14,700 people and 24,000 people for various acts of disobedience.
Numbers 16:49 ESV
49 Now those who died in the plague were 14,700, besides those who died in the affair of Korah.
Numbers 25:9 ESV
9 Nevertheless, those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.
After giving the Mosaic Law, God commanded the people to obey it or suffer many evils, including something that sounds like disease.
Deuteronomy 28:22 ESV
22 The Lord will strike you with wasting disease and with fever, inflammation and fiery heat, and with drought and with blight and with mildew. They shall pursue you until you perish.
These are just a few examples of many plagues and diseases God caused.

Reconcile trouble

It’s sometimes hard to imagine our loving and merciful God displaying such wrath and anger toward His people.
But God’s punishments always have the goal of repentance and restoration.
In 2 Chronicles 7:13–14, God said to Solomon.
2 Chronicles 7:13–14 ESV
13 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, 14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Here we see God using disaster to draw His people to Himself, to bring about repentance and the desire to come to Him as children to their heavenly Father.
This may sound very strange or extreeme but we must remeber:
Isaiah 55:8 ESV
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
Does this men that we should not pray and just let things hapen?
OF course NOT!
Even if it were from God that does mean we should be fatalistic.
Look at Moses, God told moses that he would punish the Israliets for their disobedience but Moses pleaed with God to punish him rather and leave the people alone.
Look at Abraham and Sodom, God said he would destroy the city and Abraham pleased with God to relent if there were a few righteous people found in the city and God honored his request.
The important thing is go to God with your requests by faith.

What about the NT?

In the New Testament, Jesus healed “every disease and every sickness,” as well as plagues in the areas He visited.
Matthew 9:35 ESV
35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
Matthew 10:1 ESV
1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.
Mark 3:10 ESV
10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him.
Just as God chose to use plagues and disease to show His power to the Israelites, Jesus healed as an exhibition of the same power to verify that He was truly the Son of God.
He gave the same healing power to the disciples to verify their ministry.
Luke 9:1 ESV
1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,

Today

So what do we make of desease today?
Does God still use desease for his own purposes?
He can if he wants.
Psalm 115:3 ESV
3 Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.
But sometimes disease, even worldwide pandemics, are simply the result of living in a fallen world.
There is no way to determine whether or not a pandemic has a specific spiritual cause or if its just a fallen world.
We just dont know.
But there are a few things we do know:
But we do know that God has sovereign control over all things.
Romans 11:36 ESV
36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
And we know that God will work all things together for the good of those who know and love Him.
Romans 8:28 ESV
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
We dont know if dease cause more repentance and glory for god that in a world with no desease - its beyond our scope.
We cannoy say if desease causes more repnatance and faith than if there was no desease.
This is particulay hard to digest if you believe that god wants us to be happy - that the goal of life and god is our happiness.
But the goal of God in our lives is not happiness but holiness.
If the goal of life is to happy then desease makes no sense. but if the goial of life is holiness then god seeming to permit it DOES make sense.

Is covid 19 a sign of the times?

The spread of sicknesses such as the coronavirus is a foretaste of pandemics that will be part of the end times.
Jesus referred to future plagues associated with the last days.
Luke 21:11 ESV
11 There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
The two witnesses of Revelation 11 will have power “to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want”
Revelation 11:6 ESV
6 They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.
Seven angels will wield seven plagues in a series of final, severe judgments described in Revelation 16.
What does this mean?
The appearance of pandemic diseases may or may not be tied to God’s specific judgment of sin.
It could also simply be the result of living in a fallen world.
Since no one knows the time of Jesus’ return, we must be careful about saying global pandemics are proof that we are living in the end times.
For those who do not know Jesus Christ as Savior, disease should be a reminder that life on this earth is tenuous and can be lost at any moment.
As bad as pandemics are, hell will be worse.
The Christian, however, has the assurance of salvation and the hope of eternity because of the blood of Christ shed on the cross for us.
Isaiah 53:5 ESV
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Hebrews 9:28 ESV
28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

What is our responce?

How should Christians respond to pandemic diseases?
First, do not panic.
God is in control.
The Bible says the equivalent of "do not fear" over 300 times.
Second, be wise.
Take reasonable steps to avoid exposure to the disease and to protect and provide for your family.
Third, look for opportunities for ministry.
Often when people are fearful for their lives, they are more willing to have conversations about eternity.
Be bold and compassionate in your sharing of the Gospel, always speaking the truth in love.
Fourth, Make sure that you are right with God
