HOOK

Yesterday the emphasis of what we have learned from the Lord is that he has given them and us a choice
That led us to study the Romans Road to eternal life because that is the fundamental basis of the choice we have to make that has eternal implications in our lives
After the Lord’s teaching taught his disciples about Him being the bread of life— many of them can hardly understand and believe— and many of them deserted Jesus
So let’s continue and see what happened
WHY DID MANY OF THE LORD’S DISCIPLES DESERTED [ABANDONED] HIM?
Open your Bible to John 6:60-71… type Amen as you get there… this will bring us to our completion of chapter 6

BOOK

John 6:60–71 NIV
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” 61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” 66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” 70 Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” 71 (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)

LOOK

THIS IS A HARD TEACHING WHO CAN ACCEPT IT? (v. 60)
They were referring to eating his flesh and drinking his blood
That Jesus is the Bread of Life
MANY OF HIS DISCIPLES TURNED BACK AND NO LONGER FOLLOWED HIM (v.66)
These are the kind of followers that are only willing to listen to what they wanted to hear
LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO? YOU HAVE THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE (v. 68)
There’s no one else that we can turn to other than Jesus who is the bread of life
The life giving Spirit
HAVE I NOT CHOSEN YOU, THE TWELVE? YET ONE OF YOU IS A DEVIL (v. 70)
Jesus is not just omnipotent [all powerful] God— He is also Omniscient [all knowing] God
He knew all along, even before he chose his 12— why would you think Jesus chose one to be a traitor?— to fulfill the will the Father who sent Him
If none of them betrayed him, his arrest, persecution, crucifixion that led to his death and resurrection could have not taken place

TOOK

I AM CHOSEN, I AM CALLED AND I AM BLESSED
I WILL NOT ABANDON JESUS EVEN WHEN HIS TEACHINGS GETS HARD TO ACCEPT
THERE’S NO ONE ELSE TO TURN TO OTHER THAN JESUS
