Good morning Youth180,
Happy Thursday to you. I’m glad to be back with you this morning for our morning devos here at Youth 180. I hope that you all are doing great. While your home and doing school there that you are taking time to rest and chill during this time we are all in.
I’m excited to share with you some thoughts about hope, our theme for this week. As with our other daily devotions our rhythm is that we read the bible passage together, talk about it a little and then pray together. Let’s jump right in. Today we’re going to look at Colossians 1:27, “27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
In this book of Colossians what’s going on is this guy Paul, who wrote the book, is writing this letter to these people to remind them of where their hope should be. Now these Colossians worshiped other gods and practiced other religious activities and so Paul wanted to make sure that they didn’t fall into the trap of all the things they did before.
Which I think is something that we all can and do struggle with. Being in this place where we can fall back into old habits and struggles. I know for myself because some of my old struggles are so engrained in me that it’s almost easy to fall back into those patterns of sin, which is what they are.
And I really think that just like what Paul is saying that we need to be reminded of the mystery which is the gospel, the words of Jesus. The hope that we have being followers of Christ. Which in essence is our hope. The hope that we get is all wrapped up into the person, the life, the work of Jesus.
It’s because of the promise of salvation through Jesus that we have the hope. It’s because of Jesus’ death and resurrection that we have hope of eternal life. It’s because of his example of love and care for others that we have hope of deeper and more meaningful relationships. You see this hope is all tied into Jesus in some way.
Charles Spurgeon also reminds us of this fact. He says, “Without Christ there is no hope”. And that is the absolute truth. Without the hope of Jesus there isn’t any hope for anything at all. Everything goes out the window. Everything is actually meaningless. Life would simply be just a span of time and thats it. That’s pretty hopeless isn’t it.
But because of Jesus we have this amazing and wonderful hope for now and the future. That if we follow Jesus and because we follow Jesus we are cared for and loved by our creator and Lord. And I don’t know about you but that’s the hope that I’m drawn to.
Let’s pray together.
