Wrath Instead of Glory

Habakkuk 2:6-20

A. God Condemns the Babylonians – 5 Woes

1.Woe 1 – Wrathful Destruction (2:6-8)

2.Woe 2 – Self-preservation (2:9-11)

3.Woe 3 – Brutal Bloodshed (2:12-14)

4.Woe 4 – Self-exaltation (2:15-17)

5.Woe 5 – Devoted Idolatry (2:18-20)

B. The heart of Babylon’s sin: self-glorifying idolatry

1.The relationship between self-exaltation and idolatry

2.Turning the created order on its head (Gen 1:27-28; 3:5; 11:4)

C. God responds to the injustices and sins of Babylon

1.God will return their wrath upon their own head (2:16)

2.God will bring an end to their glory (2:14)

3.God will be honored and glorified over idols (2:19-20)
